Ride a-long

Downfall -- "I have a POV and am scheduled for a ride a-long soon. Can I request that they just follow me since I only have one seat? Or can they make me drive that LLV junk? They are so dangerous on these gravel roads and hills I have."
-- IMO - doing a "ride-a-long" from a trailing vehicle is a waste of time as the carrier can't point out problem areas or problem mailboxes. Being on a cell phone to the trailing vehicle is a big no-no!
-- If you are not qualified or not certified to operate an LLV, be sure to point that out to manglement.
- Used to be if one had not operated an LLV in more than a year, one had to get requalified/recertified.
- If required to get recertified, you'll be in a pay status - per the contract ( somewhere in Article 30 )
-- With the Metris only having the driver's seat, that would rule out using it for a "ride-a-long".
-- No idea if the Platypus has the capability of having a jump seat installed like an LLV.

Duckbill has jumpseats and also a cargo extractor to pull the hot air out. AC may not be fantastic getting there but it at least exists. Just like the llv, not gonna be seeing a lot, but both of you can get up and have a boxing match if it becomes necessary. Best outcome is closing the corridoor and locking them away

carrier. This inspection is to be made by the postmaster or a designee while accompanying the
carrier on the route.
As @btdtret pointed out, make sure you are certified / trained to operate any Govt. Vehicle that is used. Also, note that if a Govt. Vehicle is used that no EMA is granted for that day. You wouldn't want to receive a L.O.D. for that amount.
