Route Inspection - 2 scanners

New policy for route inspections is 2 scanners along for the ride. 1 for your use, the other for the rider. Reason being is to compare your route driving habits solo against your trip with a rider.

Any specifics ? Speed, time at Stop sign/light, line of travel, parking for dismounts or parcel delivery and time at box. Why can't the PO compare your scanner data from the route inspection day with your solo day? Is mgmt. entering other data on scanner? ( tinfoil hat on)

Days can vary so much. Heck my route inspector drives behind me. Sometimes he/she will sit at a box while I keep going for blocks.

I'm always WAY slower when somebody rides with me... where's the big surprise there??? 1st time the new PM rode with me, I had a REALLY light mail day, so when we were almost back to the PO, the PM comments about how early a day it was... and I agreed... so we get back, and I was the LAST route in that day...

Typically whoever has the rider for that day, is always the last back... go figure... the PO thinks they're splitting the atom here...

And so what are they going to do with all of this comparison data??? Tell us to slow down on non-rider days to what we do when we have a rider... DOH!?!? That'll really improve our productivity... NOT!!!

Do it right all the time and you don't have to worry. :)

(I'm talking to those who finger the mail, rabbitstop, go over the speed limit and so on and so on)

I do everything the same way every day, rider or no. Less chance I'll screw up and miss something in my routine.

Aware of longer time on route with rider. Looking for corners carriers cut.

IE.. I have one remote corporate location which never has had outgoing mail in 12 years. Rare incoming. Less than 5 items per month. I could shave 3/10's and 2 lights by driving via a left turn access point to serve boxes after this rare location. If done over a week minus 18 min. Know many RCA who have done it while covering.

We aren't worried. Just asking if the data is already there, why another set of data. Regarding D.B.'s post. It takes longer because you have to answer questions, wait for inspector to get out/in at dismounts, vehicle can't be organized the way you are used to working, etc...

Doing the same way everyday is smart. Routine works.

And so what will they say or do if they see a difference in their comparisons??? So far nobody has said anything to me about how I run my route, when and if they do, then I suppose we'll go from there... if the mail is delivered, the customers have no complaints, what's the diff???

My route time varies quite a bit day to day... all depends on MANY factors, road conditions, traffic conditions, how many parcels that don't fit in boxes, mail volume, etc., etc... my ride along day will fall somewhere between a fast day and a slow day... probably closer to a slow day...

Honestly, the only thing that is gonna change after all of this hoopla is said and done... route inspections, mail count, yada, yada, yada... is our pay... and that's what it's all about, let's not pretend they have some other goal here... it's about giving people a haircut when it comes to their paycheck...

-- I'd think it would be to compare the scanner that stays in the vehicle with the one that goes to the door.

-- One can always hope the battery in the scanner that stays in the vehicle dies while on the route.

-- BTW - which clerk in the office will be giving up his / her scanner?

A smart an profitable business would say, if there's no delivery or pick at that location, skip it... a stupid and money losing business would say, even tho there is no delivery or pickup at that location, drive by it everyday and waste time, gas, and $$$ money... can anybody see why the USPS loses $$$ money???
