Route posting/bidding question

I understand that a vacant route must be posted in all offices under an APO/RMPO umbrella and if not posted correctly, the bid can be grieved and reversed.

My question is: if one of the eligible RCAs doesn't understand or know how to bid, can the award be grieved and reversed?

Thank you, PastOThirty. I just wanted to check and make sure.

No one explained to me how to bid the first time. Granted, at the time I wasn't the senior RCA so I had no chance of getting a route, but I figured it out. Still not the senior RCA and still not going to get the route. But if someone screws up, I want the route.

littlesew&sew -- Route bidding.

"No one explained to me how to bid the first time."

-- Why rely on others? Plenty of info in RI's KNOWLEDGEBASE.

"Granted, at the time I wasn't the senior RCA so I had no chance of getting a route."

-- Always bid as someone MIGHT make a mistake in the bidding process.

"Still not the senior RCA and still not going to get the route."

-- See above. AND don't believe what others say about their interest or lack of interest in a route.

-- Just don't be the RCA to screw up on the bidding process.

Once I found RI's Knowledgebase I read up on everything I had a question about.

At the first opportunity to bid in my office, I bid all, knowing I wouldn't get the route, but as my previous PM advised, "if the senior sub is incapacitated before the bid closes, the route isn't reposted.

This time, senior sub doesn't know how to bid. He thinks he just has to sign a paper and the route is his. If asked, I will direct him to RI, the PM, or the union. Since I would be the one to get the route if he doesn't understand how to bid (assuming I bid correctly), I don't want anyone to think that I misled him about the bidding process.

PastOThirty, I completely agree that if there is a computer issue that occurs at home and the bidder can't access the site, management/union should be able to assist with trying in office. And these issues must be addressed before the bid closes.

To add, a few computer systems don't work with our bidding process. Even some of Office computers don't work which makes NO sense. We've had a couple of carriers/subs have to go to a submitted WRITTEN bid with Mgmt help.
We've had a sub in our office think he bid correctly but turned out they didn't "bid all" and missed a route in the process. Just happens the vacant route was taken by a Regular & the sub didn't list this Reg carrier's route so it went District bid.

If a carrier waits until the last minute to bid and doesn't get a conformation that the bid was accepted, I've seen a lower seniority carrier win the bid with out any change able to be made. Bids should be attempted when they first are able to be made, and any problems must be addressed and corrected so that a conformation is received by the bidder. Even if a winner of the bid gives up their bid so that the proper seniority carrier can have it, it goes district wide, and that carrier probably won't get it anyway. Be very careful when bidding and learn the ins and outs of bidding before doing so.
