I recall a carrier was taking sample Lotto scratch off tickets from the mail, scratching them off, and cashing in the winners.... only problem was, all the lotto sites were under video surveillance and after a while they started getting suspicious about this same person cashing in so many of these mailed sample tickets... Js... BUSTED...

Here's a related story...

A postal worker at the main sorting office finds an unstamped, poorly hand-written envelope addressed to God.

He opens the envelope and discovers a letter from an elderly lady, who is distressed because some thief has robbed her of a hundred dollars.

She will be cold and hungry for the rest of the month if she doesn’t receive some divine intervention.

The postal worker organizes a collection among the other postal workers who dig deep into their pockets and collect a total of ninety six dollars to donate to needy senior citizen.

They mail the money to her by express delivery that very same morning.

A week later the postal worker recognizes the same handwriting on another envelope addressed to God.

He opens it and reads the letter:

“Dear God, thank you for replacing the money which was stolen from me.

This month would have been so bleak otherwise.

P.S. It was four dollars short, but that was probably because of those thieves at the post office.”

A lot of Regular Carriers make more than $30/hour. I’m a Table 1 making $37/hour.
Nobody makes $20/hour. RCAs currently make $21.89.

Wages are not the issue.

Stuck as an RCA for X number of years, stuck on table 2, being paid like a second class citizen for X number of years to do the same work, dwindling number of RCAs in general so you'll be stuck doing more work, can't even get GOV vehicles on the routes because carriers refuse to give up their POV or management refuses to put one on the route. Constantly being squeezed, constant harassment, constant made up nonsense forced on you by management with the understanding that you just gotta bend over and take it. And I get the pleasure of doing this for another 30 plus years?

Wages aren't THE issue, but they are certainly one of many issues. There is no excuse for mail theft, period, and I guarantee you these thieves are doing way better financially than a lot of people, but c'mon. A table 1 telling me that wages aren't the issue? Chuckleworthy.

Not justifying "theft" of any sort... but what USPS does to some carriers is as bad or worse than theft .. I know a carrier in not great health, currently working at age 65+, trying to get in 5 years of service so they can keep their health insurance, after working for the USPS for 30+ years, almost all as a RCA.... USPS has taken a lot from this carrier for not much in return.... call it what you want.... seems wrong in many ways to me, and there are many stories like this out there...

I was replying to the Augsburg’s statement as if any Rurals made 20/hr and the claims that 30/hr would fix it.
Table 2 will catch up eventually. On that note, Step 8 (7 yrs) on Table 2 makes $30.57/ hour on a 40 hour route which is where the chart catches up to Table 1 & then will equal the max at Step 15 (14 yrs).
I understand that if isn’t fair in overall calculation of wages but that is only if the wages were frozen for many many years. When I went regular, I was making under $18/hour. I was finally was able to qualify to purchase my $200k home after 2 years when I finally got a raise to $21/hr.
If I were on Table 2 right now, I would still be making the same wage as I do now simply because I have over 18 years as a Regular.

Back in the day that was true... getting a job at the PO was a big deal back then.... They would only open up testing every so often because they usually had so many on waiting lists wanting to be hired... Now compare that to today where it's hard to even get anybody to apply... USPS has fallen so far, so fast...
