Does the Regular Carrier get to chose which Regularly Scheduled Day Off (on their route) they want or does management decide it for them and the carrier has to accept/live with it?

Solution
So you think if I bid and get that route PM will llet me change the day to a Sat or Mon instead of the middle of the week? Right now he is saying no:confused:
Whichever Carrier wins the route & decides that they do not wish to have a Weekday Relief Day, they need only to put it in writing to the PM. I would get it date-stamped also for proof in case of a grievance. If mgmt refuses, file a grievance. Add in your written statement that because mgmt is refusing to allow a non-formula Office Carrier to revert back to their rightful Saturday Relief Day, you’d like to be paid 150% for having to work those Saturdays. Let your Steward know in case this, also, JIC. That could be used as leverage to force mgmt to abide by the contract.
are you in a formula office if so seniors get first pick of days down the line until the end x number of carriers can have the same day off. So you get the day the posting says or until the formula changes . if not your choice all days are open to you until the formula strikes. Only k routes fall under the formula j route keeps Saturdays.

In a Formula Office, mgmt CAN determine which days are available when allowing Carriers to change from a Saturday Relief Day. Mgmt is not required to allow changing a weekday for another weekday UNLESS the current weekday Relief Day has more on Relief than are allowed on Saturday. If Saturday has 3 Reliefs, no weekday can have more than 3 Reliefs.
Mgmt SHOULD try to keep the weekday Reliefs evenly spread but Districts do not like to allow Monday due to Monday holidays nor Friday due to a recent Rotation Step 4 Settlement.

This route will come up for bid soon. It's not a formula office and the relief day is a weekday that is not Monday or Friday. I would just like to have two days off in a row. (Sat - Sun or Sun-Mon) I am told that they won't change it.

Cliff Clavin -- The relief day goes with the route.

-- You did not mention what the route is. If it is a J route, it is supposed to have a Saturday relief day. Nor what the carrier / RCA situation is in the office.

-- Otherwise, best to hope the PM will come around later to allow a change to a Saturday or Monday, but until then, enjoy the 5 Federal Monday holidays.

-- And pay attention to the calendar to see when July 4th, November 11th, Christmas and New Years fall on a Monday.

-- Digging into the file cabinet and found these items of interest:

- Step 4 ( S-9 ) in part: The Postal Operations Manual in section 651.1 in part states, "authorized relief days are granted on Saturdays unless another day is desired by the regular carrier and is mutually agreeable to the postmaster and carrier. In H7R-1Q-C 22544, as well as this grievance, the carrier no longer desired a day other than Saturday, thus the route will be granted Saturday as a relief day."

- Step 4 ( R-92 ) in part: If mutually agreeable to both the postmaster and the employee, the employee's relief day may be changed.

-- Good luck.

If you end up not getting a Saturday or Monday your next best option in my opinion is Wednesday! Let me explain why, first of all thats the day I have and I haven't worked a day after a holiday in years. What I will do is request an annual day on Tuesday the day after the holiday. In doing this I have benefited in having usually 6 four day weekends each calendar year! They make for excellent mini vacations!

The route should be posted with sat off because this is the day we get if not formula, then you can change if agreed upon once you get the route or you can earn deca 3 and get x days.... I would earn deca 3 and take x day the same day each week at least you will get some extra $. if not posted with sat off, call union and get it taken down. He cannot just do what he wants. If the route has another day now, this was agreed to by the regular, the reg is leaving new person has a choice now. I say make them pay!!!

Being that many pm's lie when their mouth opens, it would be a good idea for you to put in writing your desire to work Wednesday. (From post #9 above from Btdret)Your letter could say, "The Postal Operations Manual in section 651.1 in part states, authorized relief days are granted on Saturdays unless another day is desired by the regular carrier". I would like my relief day to be Saturday, or Monday." Post mark it, keep the original and give him a copy. You will have the day you want off soon, if not right after you grieve it.

-- It is a "K" route

-- Is there a link for The Postal Operations Manual?

More good advice....

He cannot post route with another day off except sat as I said in post #11 because that may influence the bidding. ( SOME ONE MIGHT NOT BID BECAUSE IT HAS ANOTHER DAY OFF OTHER THAN SAT)Don't even let it be posted any other way. If you think you can bid on the route with another day off with the idea you will change after the fact they can easily say you bid that way.
