Scheduled or not?

I am an RCA, and my questions for you seasoned workers are:

1. Is there a rule where the schedule is to be posted with a number a weeks notice? If so, what are the guidelines?

2.Schedilule has been up for three weeks, I was not scheduled to work three days straight. I made an appointment, and then was called in last minute. I replied to PM, and explained I could work one of the days but had a commitment for the other. She put me on the schedule anyway without me knowing. I worked the day I said I would, then was called by the supervisor like I was a no show. PM acted like I dropped the ball. I pointed out that she replied to my text where I stated I couldn’t work that day. She then said that if I no showed again, I would be written up.

should I file a grievance?
PM pulls this ALL THE TIME!

3. If PM changes the schedule after I worked my last scheduled day, is it my responsibility to call In everyday to see if it’s changes? Or should PM or Supervisor advise us?

-- The closest you'll get to something in black and white is Article 30.1.G. -- Scheduling -- Scheduling is the responsibility of the Employer. Schedules should be realistic ( LOL these days ), based upon the receipt and availability of the mail, the route evaluation, and other related service considerations.

- If the relief day is to be changed, the carrier will receive notice of the change no later than the Saturday of the service week preceding the effective week of the change.

-- Guidelines? Like most other things, depends on each office. Since the USPS work week goes from Saturday to Friday, my last post office had the upcoming schedule posted on Thursday morning. However, the RCA schedule was usually in pencil as changes could occur daily -- or hourly!!

-- You can point to Step 4 ( S-18 ) which dealt with providing RCA's with reasonable notice when work assignment changes are necessary.

- Except in emergency situations, when management deems it necessary to change or modify the intended work assignment of a leave replacement employee, management WILL make reasonable efforts to notify the employee in a timely manner. ( not that manglement will care, but IMHO that would mean manglement had best call you, especially if you were not scheduled to work the last time you checked the schedule. )

-- While not your responsibility to call in, sounds as if you should just to be on the safe side with the particular tyrant.

-- Some have posted that the office policy is for RCA's to wait until a certain time to be called in - say 9 am. If not called, free to take care of other tasks for the day.

-- You can let an answering machine be your call screener. If you want or need the work, answer. And if not, ignore the call.

-- IMHO -- the PM should not be texting you at home. See above.

"She then said that if I no showed again, I would be written up."

-- Not quite an empty threat, but to win, she would have to prove that she made an effort to contact you - per Step 4 ( S-18 ).
