senior carrier bidding

I will be senior carrier in office after carrier on other route retires (we will call it A route)...I want to bid due to being 25 years on a h route....route coming vacant is a k....there is another k route in office (we will call B Route) ...I rather have B route and that carrier will possibly be bidding on the vacant route also (she won't tell anyone if she does). If I bid all being that I have seniority must I take the A route that is becoming vacant or do I get to pick. Not sure if I explained right.

ENMmaillady -- as a disclaimer, all my bidding was done in-office on the little pink cards!

-- That out of the way, sounds as if you are in a difficult situation. Route A is coming up for bids, but you really want Route B. Route B's carrier may or may not bid on Route A, thus opening up Route B as a residual. NEVER believe what a carrier may or may not say regarding route bidding!!

-- Maybe this will help. It is from the March 2016 issue of the national magazine in the Question Box Section regarding automated bidding:

Q--it is my understanding that if I wish to bid on route(s) that I list them in the order of preference. Is this correct?

A--Yes. Any route that a regular carrier wishes to ACCEPT ( the original posted vacancy or any route that may become VACANT as a result of the original posting ) should be listed in the order of preference. Remember, you should ONLY list and bid on routes that you are willing to take instead of your own. ...only bid on those routes to which you are willing to be reassigned.

-- Based upon that, I'd list just Route B.

-- If you really want off of the H route, then list Route B, then Route A. Anyone??

I agree bid rt B 1st , then if you don't mind rt A bid 2nd. You never know who is going to move if there is another route you might like b4 the H you are on then bid those also in order of your liking. DO NOT BID ALL BECAUSE IF SOMEONE UNDER YOU LIST ROUTES IN ORDER OF THEIR LIKING THEY COULD GET A ROUTE BEFORE YOU BECAUSE BIDDING ALL MEANS YOU'LL ACCEPT WHATS LEFT OVER. VERY IMPORTANT TO LIST IN ORDER YOU WANT EVEN IF YOU WANT THEM ALL.

It has been a while since I bid but as I remember you only bid the route or routes that you'd accept and you bid them in the order that you want them. So bid route B as your first choice and route A as your second choice. So if the other carrier bids you get the route you want, B if the other carrier doesn't bid you get route A which is a K route that's better than your current route.
