Silly sunday question(s)

First is there a cut off time for when they receive the trucks?

(I know during the week at our office its no later then 830 and it rolls over.) I am asking as our usual start time is 10am I don't know if that is company wide but if the truck is late they bump back the start time to lately its been 1230 which is nuts as they make us mark the parcels and use that goof turn by turn, so we are getting out super late and why are we not delivering only packages that say Sunday delivery.

Another tidbit I got from the city union steward today, said that if they post 10am that the city carriers can come in and clock in at 10am whether its ready or not as they cant keep manipulating the schedule to bend the rules. Is that the same for rural?

As a non volunteer its bad enough to have to work 6 days a week but they keep putting us all on Sundays to compensate to do the the city parcels which is a nationwide grievance at the moment (which mgmt. is cutting corners)

Schedule changes can be made, but they should give you a 2 week notice before changing. Even when they do change it, they should only do so for logistical reasons. Those reasons include you getting back off the street at a reasonable time also.
Any time Rca's are required to do CCA work they should grieve for CCA pay which is higher and with benefits.

If they tell you to show up at 10 and the truck is late and you have to wait, definitely should be getting paid from 10 on.

You must be in a primarily city office if they're using rurals to cover city's behinds. Our office has done the reverse - but only if the CCA is volunteering to help.

I think RCA's make more than CCAs, though not 100%.

its in Colorado and its a smaller office. I believe the ccas get more money as they get allowance for uniforms and what not. but they cant go into overtime, so im told so this is there genius idea to compensate. what gets me is some don't get hours, so on Sunday they milk it and we have to cross crafts to help which we are not even on Sunday and its ridiculous staying out till 8-9pm. Though the hours are great, but when your already working 5-6 days consistently, a person would like to be able to see his family etc etc. Our office is a crap shoot,

one of the things I hate is having to mark our parcels on Sunday which my section is usually 200-400+ so even with 2-3 people you waste time and then that co-pilot that they make us use is slow and off. I don't understand why routes that I've done for 3 years they make you do the turn by turn, its slow and inefficient, that coupled with then having to go do city routes afterwards as they don't hire enough or schedule enough people its beyond poor leadership

They make YOU mark the parcels? That's what the clerks are supposed to do. So you're doing the clerk and the cca's jobs...wow, just wow.

Yea they started out doing it when the Sunday thing was starting but the last few years we had to. Initially was told the system was down but that is bs, also our clerks are super slow so I’m guessing that’s why

If I can ever find verbiage where it states it’s the clerks job I’d grieve the hell out of it as it wastes so much time. That would be a huge help if any one can post or show that

I don't think you'd have anything to grieve, since you're getting paid to do clerk and cca work you're not supposed to be doing - they'd be grieving you!

Man, what a shit show.

Yea I’ve never seen people (mngrs) cut so many corners and lie it’s unbelievable it’s no wonder the stewards have to go above their heads to try to get results.

does it say anywhere that it is the clerks job to mark the parcels as I know if I say something they’ll call bs and keep doing it . I k ow the clerks would be all for it I’m sure for more money but native they don’t know either as it is usually the jv squad on Sunday

Hubs and spokes in my area RCA's & ARC's have been marking there own for over a year now! I know when I was working Amazon Sundays it was already done when we showed up. All we had to do was sequence them as we loaded. Sounds like just another way the USPS is trying to save payroll on the backs of the Rural Craft!

Part of it is because we roll over and just take it. I would flat out refuse this nonsense also.

That because the NRLCA doesn't really support RCA issues, heck they barely address ours as Rural Carriers! The NRLCA handles its membership as a class system would and not that we are all members of the same organization!

Oh believe me, I know the union doesn't GAF about subs. Subs can't rely on the union to help them, so sometimes they're going to have to help themselves by standing up to nonsense like this....late arrivals, mark your own packages, stay out till 9 at night? That's just ridiculous.

I've been trying to encourage others to stand, but when I have the conversations with them' they are scared and don't want to rock the boat. As I told them yesterday I cant be the only one to stand and fight for our rights.

It as I said before, disgusts me to know end that our management team takes advantage of the naïve people and wont follow the rules. They don't want to stay out that late either but I am having a hell of a time getting them to write statements etc. about doing the city routes etc

If someone refuses to work, doing something that clearly is out of their lane, and management attempts to punish them, wouldn't the union HAVE to step in then?

We can’t refuse a Direct Order as long as it is not unsafe BUT I would tell mgmt to PLEASE put that in writing. We must follow orders & then file a grievance! The Union does not have to “step in” until the Carrier being disciplined files a grievance. The Carrier can request their Reps presence at the Step 1 Discussion if they are uneasy about confronting mgmt. The Union CAN file a Class Action if multiple carriers are being harmed by whatever mgmt is demanding when it’s a violation. Those Carriers would likely need to write a statement if it’s not affecting the whole office.

I’m curious what every ones else’s start time it? Ours is usually ten, but even yesterday it got bumped to 11.as our clerks are slow and or trucks are late.

is there also a cut off time for trucks on Sunday like there is durning the week?

As RCa's your office can contact your steward and ask him to file a class action grievance for you all ( you only need two or more carriers to file a class action grievance). No one has to WORRY about "Rocking the boat" this is done with anonymity through your steward. Any RCA that is working 400 parcels on Sunday (there is an an expected # of hours that would normally take) and add the time to help CCA's and that should be over 12 hours which can't be scheduled.
