My husband is an RCA on a six day hold down. The other RCAs receive a scheduled day off and then work amazon Sundays. I looked through an agreement that the union has with USPS and it appears to me that he should be regularly scheduled for Amazon Sundays while on a six day hold down. Is that correct?

If the regular route ... wait...... so they did convert his route to a regular route...... that's why he was taken out of leave earning.... it also appears the newly converted route is an H route so he doesn't get a day off. Make sure he is taking the full evaluation of the regular route because he will probably be over 40 actual hours....... and you said something like 60 or 70 a week. That 30 hours of OT really makes for a big paycheck!

If the route is vacant, your husband should not be working Amazon Sunday while holding down a route. If so, after 90 days, his designation should have changed to 74 which moves him to leave earning status.

Here's a link to the Sunday and Holiday Work MOU http://nrlca.org/Documents/WebContent/eb84406a-e260-4ec2-875e-9b1119953ca2-01252017-S-106.pdf and the relevant portion is the second to last paragraph.

They've actually been making him work 7 days a week with no scheduled days off since March (when the route was still an auxiliary route). They just changed it to a full route a week ago.Yes...the paychecks are good. I also work full time and we have two young kids though...so sometimes it would be nice to actually see our husband/father.

Ethe1Anne - That's the MOU that I read as well. I believe he brought this up to them before and they told him that basically if they "need" him that MOU doesn't matter. Everyone else that works Amazon Sundays seems to get a scheduled day off during the week...except my husband and one other person (both on six day hold downs). I believe they are taking advantage of them and that they should NOT be coming in on Sundays based on the MOU. I will bring this up to him again...

In an emergency they can make anyone do anything--the mail has to get delivered.

The MOU is pretty clear--RCAs on hold downs are not to be utilized for Sunday work until all other ARCs and RCAs are scheduled. If they're scheduling everyone, and they still need your husband, unfortunately, not much recourse.

On the second page it says:

"Rural carrier associates serving vacant regular routes or serving regular routes during the extended absence of the regular carriers, including the first ninety days before becoming a Designation 74-0, will NOT be scheduled for Sunday/holiday parcel delivery UNLESS all leave replacements from both the volunteer and non-volunteer lists are scheduled."

Does that help?

@Jojomac - I am attempting to merge your 2 topics with the same title and question to tidy up. Hopefully nothing will be lost in translation.

Thank you everyone! He's just being told he HAS to come in b/c he "chose" a 6 day hold down and every RCA HAS to come in on Sunday. No emergency situation. The MOU is pretty clear. He'll have that in had to speak to his supervisor.
