Speed requirement

pm texted me and said a customer came in furious that I was speeding and I was told to slow down. I said that I'm sorry the customer was upset and to let me know who it was so I can slow down in the customers area, BUT if you check the scanner, at no point have i exceeded any speed limits. About 40 min later, (plenty of time to check scanner data,) pm texted me again and said to just slow down. Wont even tell me who complained. This route is over 130 miles, if I slow down the whole thing that's a fair amount of time! If the pm pushes the issue do I have a leg to stand on or should I just suck it up and do the whole thing at 20mph?

Ignore it.

I had a complainer. Turns out he was not a "customer", but had a pobox.

He stopped me one day screaming. I said, listen bud. I don't see a mailbox here, so back off. You want me to slow down? Put a box here, then ill have to stop. Otherwise im driving by here @55 because I got a job to do and pleasing you isn't my job.

And if your person is like mine, there's a 100 cars that speed by. Just because you're a mailman, doesn't give them the constitutional right to dictate what you do.

And really, if you're speeding by, they don't have a box.

Sure I'm annoyed that I'm being asked to slow down when I'm not doing anything wrong; but what's really steaming my clams is that instead of politely asking me to slow down a tad this guy went full Karen going directly to my boss causing a scene, threatening to call the "law." I'm just thinking call the law, you are going to look like a fool. Just wish the pm would of backed me up. Pm in the next town over would of told him to shut up in impolite terms.

Oh the ole customer complaining about speeding.

My favorite is this long !@#%ing lane, it takes forever to go down. First day I ever worked, I was running late, and went down and got yelled and told 20 mph. Year or two later, I got told 15 mph by same person. Following year, a different woman yelled at me for speeding down and told me 10 mph or under down the lane.

That is when the ole peach slip started. Problem solved. I don't care if you want to be reasonable 20 mph was perfectly fine, but telling me to go under 10 mph, not happening.

If they can't tell you where you're driving too fast, it will be impossible for you to slow down at this mystery location. Tell them you need to know where this supposedly happened if they want you to take corrective action. Otherwise, continue to march . . .

Wow. Someone has way too much time on their hands.

The customer already looks like a fool, but now the PM does, too.

If you're not speeding, there is no reason to slow down, unless you see a loose bull in the roadway, etc.

Ignore it.
Get 8127 time for the call. It might prevent the PM from wasting your time in the future.

The LLVs have a 3 speed trans with carbureted engines. They hear this 1989 carbureted engine plus how high it revs before switching to the next gear. I have been told to slow down while driving 10mph (they hear the high revs, so they think I'm petal to the metal). A prius can pass them at 30, while I pass them at 15. They will tell ME to slow down. I just wave at them with a smile and move on.

That along with it being a rattle trap makes it seam like you are going 10 - 15 mph faster.

Thanks for all the advice guys! I'm pretty sure it came from a road just out of town where it looks like the speed limit should be 35, but per kansas law, un marked county roads are default 55 unless there is a county ordinance, which there is not :) i think you are right and they are just picking on me because I'm the person they can complain to somebody about. Regardless I'm going to keep it down to 45 on that road just to keep them quiet and stop stressing about one person who has nothing better to do than harass the mailman!

Had this too back in my sub days. Didn't like the dust. Oh well, it's AZ!

Too fast ? Okay, time to expose the litigator in you. Here is what you ask. Were you timed between two stationary objects ? Distance divided by time equals rate. If you were, request make and model and type of timing device. Also, if you were "clocked" by one of the several models of radar guns of which they each have inherent flaws, you would be wise to request the make, model, serial number, and last date and time of calibration. That will let 'em know that YOU KNOW !!!

Had a customer leave a note in their box for me to slow down... I wadded it’s up and left it in the box.
9 mailboxes in a row with an average distance of 15 feet apart... yeah I’d like to know how I went above 10 mph in that stretch.

unless your scanner reports you as speeding, play dumb. If you take it personally, the customer or whoever wins that battle
