I’m a single dad. Was mandated to do Amazon on a Sunday back in March in a different office. I had my son on my weekend (Saturday and Sunday.) Well that’s 2 days without him that I’m granted with him. I work every Saturday. Anyways, I got pissed and back in early March and I requested off every Sunday in 2020 that I have him. I requested absence on form 3971. Supervisor signed them all. I didn’t say what I was signing off for but I threw in a few saturdays including memorial weekend saturday. Since they are all signed and approved, I should be off. I’m an 8 year sub. I always work Saturday. Maybe 3x a year I ask the regular if they can work Saturday, they almost always say yes. The regulars I worked for in the past always asked if I can work a day after a holiday. I said yes 35 of 37 times asked (guessing) (I rarely if ever said no) The regular I WORK FOR NOW takes off every day after a holiday without asking me and I just say yes to management when they step up into my face in the case I’m working several days before she requests off. I’m ok with the money, but our office is being beaten by Amazon like a rented mule. I don’t want to work as much as any of you do, she uses her days, I feel obligated. Anyways, back to the reason I post.. the 3971 form was signed. Am I to worry about losing my job when I don’t show up memorial Saturday?

1) if mgmt had advance notice of your 3971 and can schedule around you, you are fine. If they signed the 3971 as approved, you're golden.
2) mgmt has the right to schedule. It is not a regular carriers duty to find coverage for a day off. Many will give the rca a heads up as a courtesy...not a requirement.
3) the Amazon mountain has many carriers feeling stressed.
4) EAP is available for you and your family. Perhaps you might investigate scheduling your counseling ( 12 different topics from relationship, stress, financial to team building) on a Sunday. Using your authorized, payed for EAP to make you unavailable for scheduling.
5) rca's are not just another grunt. We have all been there. The job certainly has its challenges. Don't let them eat you up.
6) this community has some great people willing to help you seek your answers. But as an online community, not everyone logs on at the time you request assistance. Give us time. We want to help.
Welcome and please check out the rca resources on the home page. It can be enlightening ?

-- Do you have the signed 3971's in you possession? If so you should be good to stay home. Just don't answer the phone!

-- Has manglement given you a direct order to work on Saturday? If not, still good to stay home. See above.

-- If in a "normal" post office, the work schedule should be posted. Are you on it for Saturday?

-- If directed to work Saturday, contact your Assistant District Representative for guidance.

-- If necessary, call the unscheduled leave number to report you have a temperature and per numerous Covid-19 Stand-Ups, you will be in self-quarantine.

-- Has your regular been notified about being on the Eagan list for 2080 / 2240 issues? If so, be prepared for even more work as the end of the Guarantee Year draws near.

-- Avail yourself of the Employee Assistance Program ( EAP ). Just mention "STRESS". Let manglement deal with finding a replacement.

-- With 8 years invested in the office, it would be hard to transfer to another and risk losing seniority.

-- Good luck. Keep us in the loop.

We could use a bit more info here. Are you in a spoke office and are being asked to work in a hub office? By that I mean are your office's Amazon Sunday parcels delivered out of another office? If so you are a spoke office and there are 2 lists of all employees from the hub and spokes that want to work on Sundays/holidays, and those that don't volunteer. From each list rca's are chosen, if you have any ARC's (assistant rural carriers, they work all Sundays and holidays) they are on the list first, then volunteers (chosen in alphabetical order) then non-volunteers, (also chosen in alphabetical order). If rca's are scheduled to work all week they would normally be excluded from either list, but can work if needed. With all that said, if this list is not being followed, as with many offices, you should grieve to have that fixed. If you are from an office outside the hub/spokes, you should only work rarely when all others aren't able to do so.

You cannot request Sundays or Holidays off just like a Regular cannot request a Relief Day off. You CAN request a Day in conjunction with the Sunday or Holiday & be protected from working that Amazon day.
The Sunday signup goes around twice a year & you would put your name in the “no” column. BUT... if there aren’t enough ”yes” peeps, then you can still be scheduled. Scheduling is done alphabetically in rotation with YES peeps first then the NOs. look at the Sunday Amazon implementation guidelines For all the rules.

You have to remember to look at this from all angles. You work EVERY saturday. The regular on that route works EVERY DAY monday thru friday. We REALLY like having our days off. The regular really has no business "asking" you to work days after holidays. You are not the regular's employee. You are managment's employee and Management hired you to work for your regular on his/her days off whatever they may be. I personally like taking days before and after holidays to maximize consecutive days off. I EARNED it. Its GREAT that you managed to get those sundays for GOOD REASON and another sub will take care of that. But throwing in that day after holiday "just because" was an unnecessary gamble in my opinion. I hope it doesn't cause bad feelings or friction or NEW, local office policies to the detriment of subs in your office which is what frequently happens with stuff like this. If you have a signed leave slip, you're golden. Be careful. Good luck.

He cannot request it? He says he DID and was approved. Good for him.
