Sub may bail

When I have a new sub riding with me... it's all I can do to not tell them to run as fast as they can from this job... but, I mantain my silence... tell them, it's like everything else... take the good with the bad... I apply the same principle as here... you can't tell them anything, they'll have to figure it out for themselves...

My sub has been pushed to her limit and is talking about quitting, saying the job isn't worth her mental health. I'm hoping she'll decide to stay--she's the good, reliable sub out of the two we have at this point and we'll really be up sh*t creek without her. I wanted to talk her into hanging in there, but I really couldn't think of anything I could say about why she should stay...

I lost a good one a few years ago. It was taking forever to go regular and she wasn't getting any younger. She became a successful real estate agent. Postal Service's loss.

I'm generally pretty positive about working for the USPS, but I even I have a hard time encouraging new RCAs to stay if they have any other opportunities. I just trained a new RCA--an older woman, probably doesn't have a lot of alternatives. I asked her about her job history--she was vague about what she had done before, so I don't think she has a lot of skills to offer the marketplace, so the RCA gig is probably good for her. Previous to training her, I worked with a new sub who had left a job at Chik-fil-a. Again, the USPS is miles ahead of that sort of work, so a good fit for her.

We lost a very accurate (though not particularly fast) RCA before Christmas--she had been handling the books for her brother's business and he couldn't afford her anymore, so she left and came to the USPS hoping for stable, reliable work (Hah!). Anyway, she found another job easily when she realized the RCA job was not for her.

I like my office, but I'm looking for something else. Just to see what else is out there. If something pops up with benefits and a regular schedule, why would I stick with this job. I've already retired once and have a pension. I don't see myself doing this for 20 more years.
