Sunday Work "Reasonable Effort"

Why would PTFs be worked before RCAs I wonder ?

At my office, there is no list, never has been a list, subs are working Sunday, period. Never had enough subs to leave that in question.

If there is no list, then all subs are not on the list.

In addition to management's first failure to satisfy their obligation of... well... making the list, it appears yours aren't making a reasonable effort (or any effort) to minimize or eliminate requiring disinterested RCAs to work on Sunday. ?

Someone with more knowledge of the situation can correct me, but I believe the ARC position was created to work Sundays on the rural side, and RCAs would be utilized (sparingly) as volunteers. It quickly became evident that there were not enough ARCs to handle the parcel volume, so RCAs were enlisted.

Are any offices even hiring ARCs anymore? I don't even know what the hiring process is for them, or how/why an office would have one. My tiny 10 route non- hub office had one when this all first started; she took the RCA test as soon as it was offered and we have never had another one since then. I've always thought the ARC position was a missed opportunity and have never understood why it wasn't more fully utilized (at lease it has not been in my district). It seems like it would be a good fit for a lot of people who wanted to pick up some extra cash on their day off.

We've had our ARC since the time they started. When he started it was his second job. Now it's his only job but that's what he wants. He does express runs and other assorted duties. Works for everyone.

The list is maintained at the hub or spoke, it includes all the PTF/RCA/ARC's for their coverage area. Most will allow them to deliver to their own zip code when possible.

I'm in a small office, when we still had Amazon our one ARC and half of our RCA's could cover all the routes in the office on a normal A-day. So our RCA's would work every other A-day with our ARC working all of them. Now that we have basically lost our Amazon it just the ARC that works and delivers to other towns that still get packages for Amazon.

In our office, since there is no list, ALL subs are on the list. No subs are interested on being on the deliver Amazon list so all of them are on the list, every...single...Sunday and holiday.

We have an ARC in our office the only reason I got today off. i tell her every Sunday I work thank you and I hope they stick around. Between us 4 rcas one of us get one Sunday off a month basically because of them. They do it for the extra money its A win win for all of us imo.

Any sub that doesn’t sign the list is considered a no. New subs have 60 days to add their name. If management isn’t posting the list the same time as the RDWL, they need to grieve that.

Our offices have had four ARC's report for their OJT day over past six months. All four never showed up again. District called last week wanting to know why we weren't working our ARC on Sundays for one of the offices. We kindly replied that the specific ARC in question reported one day OJT and never returned, and that was six months ago. They were reported as such. District was confused, hung up.

ARC is a position primarily to work Sundays. They're trained for one day at Academy, on scan and parcel delivery. The contract allows them to also work in emergencies, a route on Saturdays only, after all other RCA's have been sought to work.

It's not so much that the offices missed the opportunity, it's that nobody wants to work Sunday parcels only for what we're paying them. Since the position was created, we've seen perhaps a dozen go through our offices, with none staying more than two Sundays.

Go figure!

One thing to add about ARCs our dynamic delivery honestly just sucks. If the other rcas in office don’t atleast help the individual out the first month or more I can see why they would just quit. Me and the other most senior rca both gave the individual our number to call if any questions or they get lost. Almost a year later and still get a call some sundays about such and such address. On the clock or not doesn’t bother me. I would much rather have them not be lost and confused and continue to work.

Unfortunately, the NRLCA along with Jeanette gave us our historic Sunday mou and Amazon burdens without any fight.

If you don't volunteer, then you will be mandated. That's how the volunteer list works.
