The unthinkable has happened, we have RCAs and I have several days off each week

As the title says, we finally got a bunch of RCA's hired so now they are cutting RCA hours, which is fine by me.

However, for the first time I am working LESS than 40 hours per week.

I am getting several different stories about how I will be paid so I was hoping someone had the true story.

I was under the impression that if I go OVER 40 hours per week I get paid straight time worked for 40 hours plus time and a half for anything over 40 hours.

If I stay UNDER 40 hours per week I get paid the evaluated time for whatever route I worked. If it took me less time, lucky me. If it took me more time then too bad for me.

Someone else told me that I only get paid evaluated time for my primary route and get paid actual time for any other route, even if I work less than 40 hours per week.

I really don't have a clue at this point

If you're not a new employee within the first 5 pay periods of working for USPS, and you have seen the route before in the prior year's time, if you sign on the time sheet as the carrier for that day, you get the evaluated time. If your total actual hours for the pay week go over 40 by working multiple routes you still go back to 40 hours straight time and overtime for anything over 40.

Sounds like you have been carrying for a while, they like to keep you Clueless. They have probably already cheated you without you knowing. When working 7 days a week there is not much you can do to keep from losing your evaluation. (Except taking your time and doing the route in the evaluation).
If you carry a 9 hr. route, a 9.5 hr. route, a 8 hr route, and a 8hr. route (Lets just say you carry these four days in 32 hrs total. You are expecting to make 34.5 hrs) THEN BOSS CALLS! He needs you to carry the 9.5 route and it takes you,( lets just say 8 hrs. and 10 minutes ). Now you’re over 40 hrs. Your pay now is 40 hrs. straight time and 1hr. 10 min. overtime. (Instead of the 44 hrs. evaluation.) I am trying to make it clear for you , I hope it helps, these are hypothetical numbers.

Ibpd16 -- Glad to see you stuck with the program.

-- Was "someone else" a member of manglement?

-- I believe you are way past the 5 pay-period time frame for new RCA's, so if you are scheduled to run any route - it's evaluated pay.

-- If you are providing assistance on a route, it is actual time.

-- By going over 40 hours for the work week, its like "HardearnedTan" and "Postal-xam@58" postings. ( it really creates a vacuum )

-- What are you going to do with all that free time?

Many managers will see you squeeking in under 40 hours for the week on Friday afternoon.

They will give you additional work to put you just over the forty hours.

Then there are the really nasty ones who will change your timesheet.. Carriers have mentioned taking pictures of the 4240 and 1234 (green card) to CYA.

I thought I had it right.

Yes "someone else" was management :ROFLMAO:

I know this won't last long. In a few weeks i'll be back to 6 days a week and a route and a split on Amazon sundays.

For the first time since I joined the USPS, we have enough RCA's to cover every route.

I'm senior RCA and will likely become regular in 15 months but am down to 1 day a week, Saturday, on my assigned sub route.

Each area, each office is different, I suppose. Don't know how long it will last.

In my office, same thing has happened. We are up to full compliment, but 4 of the 9 routes covered are "new" subs, less than 4 months in....so we will see if they actually stay. I am sure that they will make it through the holiday season because of package deliveries early in the a.m. every day. After that, all bets off. On a side note, my PM said that they are no longer interviewing the new subs....they just draw from the list of applicants that pass all their tests.

Big you are correct, we just advertised for new RCA, they have not shown up yet but when they show up they are already hired....

When your hours go down you can open a unemployment claim for lack of work. When i was a sub I was on unemployment for 9yrs. It is a partial claim but it helps you with your household budget. Some weeks you get a check some you don't it's a little bit of work but it's worth it. At least you will know what kind of $ you have and you don't have to find another job. The pm doesn't have to know about it it is none of their business.

actually any employer that you are working for, knows when someone files for unemployment. (they are notified by the state, way before you begin to see a check), and they can contest your claim if you are refusing work, and it actually is there business.

You do not have to tell pm you are filing it is not their business what you choose to do. They will find out because they have to verify wages, they can not deny anything if you are not earning money and are available for work. IF YOUR NOT AVAILABLE FOR WORK ONE DAY THEN YOU HAVE TO CONSIDER THOSES WAGES AS EARNED WHEN YOU REPORT.
They don't like it because it's paperwork, but you are able to get unemployment. They don't contest your claim they just report your earnings so if your not available they can add this as a days earnings EX( you can work two days and still earn unemployment 3 days you are over your earnings so no unemployment. If you work 2 days and are unavailable the 3rd you cannot file because tech this was your 3rd day) when opening your claim unemployment will tell you how much you can earn for partial benifits.

I did that during a slow period when we maxed out on subs briefly. The lady at the unemployment office says they never hear back from the po. They verify your wages thru some other means, irs quarterly reports or ss , I'm not sure. All I know is I got paid fairly. Went from 6 days/week to 1 or 2 days/week. Helped immensely. Lasted 4 months until all subs quit.

I have another pt job so this wouldn't work for me but it sure is nice to know.
