To bid or not to bid, that is the question...

I'm tossing this out in Leave Replace for a reason. Aux route in RMPO now open for bid.

Just had chat with my RCA who is 2nd in seniority on list who has been covering this AUX for 2 days since vacant. Most senior RCA on AUX run opted for 6 day LLV run in APO, due to no POV for any other run.

Here's the spin.. " APO management and our in house Stewy told me not to bid because most senior RCA claims to have no intent on a POV for route and it will be mine in 90 days"

I told them to bid no matter what they have been told. Trust nobody on their word of not bidding.

Faceindawind -- When it comes to route bidding -- DON'T BELIEVE WHAT ANY ONE SAYS!! ( including stewards! )

-- The most senior RCA doesn't have a vehicle suitable to run a route? That's something for another day!

-- BTW -- I'm completely lost as far as who will be bidding!

Faceindawind -- "Update change info from in house stew... Bid posting wrong. Aux in play is offered by in house seniority."

-- Color me embarrassed!

-- Seem to be spending too much time on FLORENCE!! Should have caught the AUX and bidding part! My bad - sorry.

-- Article 30.2.G.2. When an auxiliary route is to be filled, the route will be OFFERED to qualified substitutes, rural carrier associates and carrier relief employees IN THE ORDER OF THE LONGEST CONTINUOUS period of service at THAT OFFICE, without regard to classification.

-- Steward is correct -- this time.

-- And previous comment about route bidding is still true!

If a RCA in a RMPO is senior to the RCA in the APO where the AUX route is located. Who should be offered the position?

My understanding is the RCA in the RMPO would be first in line.

12345 et al -- "If a RCA in a RMPO is senior to the RCA in the APO where the AUX route is located. Who should be offered the position? My understanding is the RCA in the RMPO would be first in line."

-- From the Guidelines For Rural Routes That Remain Domiciled In Remotely Managed Post Offices ( RMPO ):

Leave Replacements --

- All leave replacements will be assigned from the RMPO finance number to the APO finance number utilizing the RMPO Assignment Worksheet and "seniority" will be merged.

- When identifying "the longest period of continuous service in the office", the time will include the assignment in the RMPO prior to its designation as such.

-- Your understanding is correct.

U say bid on all, bid bid , well please tell me your opinion on not bidding because you will make less money as a regular than you did on a RCA?

Factor in paid holidays (10), retirement credit, health ins, ability to contribute to TSP with matching funds, (free money), and as soon as you make regular you can bid other jobs, or god forbid go to the dark side mgt.

Sandy girl-
If an RCA likes being thrown on any route or working multiple routes then don’t bid.

Yes, the money could be less as a Regular at first but keep in mind that your career & benefits don’t begin until you bid & win a PTF or Regular carrier assignment. As you gain time as a Reg, your pay will increase regardless of contract situation. Route growth will also increase your pay.

Regs get insurance opportunities of Life, Health, Dental, & Vision. There are retirement funds that are started when you go Regular.

Regs don’t work Sundays & Holidays.

Some RCAs don’t work more than 3 days a week so the pay would likely be better immediately. If an RCA is working 5 days or more per week, it could be temporary as mgmt can hire more RCAs lessening the workweek for senior subs. Amazon has already announced purchasing 20,000 vans for start-up delivery companies only delivering Amazon so that could also impact our craft & route evaluations.

Your Take-home may be smaller but in the long run, the benefits make up for the loss.
