reg carrier is out on med. rca for his route. well..lets say not motivated. week ago friday calls in. kids sick. off friday and saturday. . calls in monday am. now he is sick. ok, so two more days off. wed comes. still not back to work. thurs, fri, nope. tuesday after holiday. not in your wildest dreams. wed, thurs. nope. Pm tells me today she doesnt know if he quit or not. is going to talk to him.

When I put in for a day off, my PM always comes back and acts like they've accomplished some minor miracle by covering it... "...I got your route covered for those days you wanted off..." I am always tempted to say something like, "...oh, so you mean you did your job, and my sub is gonna do theirs'... hallelujah!!!..." but, I don't... I just say, okay, that's great... thanks...

They aren't gonna fire anybody making $17 and change... those are their dream employees... many times I come back and see they had to get somebody else to run my route when I was off because my sub begged off for one reason or another... when I was a sub, I foolishly took pride in things like making sure I always covered my primary route and never had to ask others to do it for me... and delivering the route correctly... what outdated concepts...

i just wish he would get fired and the rest of us could get on with life. wouldnt be ideal, but at least id have an idea of what my schedule was from day to day.

well. he is scheduled for tomorrow and saturday. its going to be -20 tonight, high of 3 tomorrow. anyone want to bet? The regs are already pissed that they had to work saturdays because of this guy. Its a good thing its a 3 office cluster. or there might be an old fashioned "code red"

and today it gets better. he showed up. cased his mail. then called in that his kids were sick. another sub is delivering for him. I get to cover the first three days this week. nobody knows how they are going to cover tomorrow yet.

Hope you get the daily and the clown gets just 2 hrs..

well. today was apparently the final straw, poor guy was overworked. help was on the way, he didnt wait for it, just left and quit on the way out. on to the next i guess.

Good for him... the lucky ones, are the ones that make it out the door... the unlucky ones are the ones that remain behind...

Our office had 4 subs quit since early Dec. now 3 left in a 22 route office .I cant believe any body stays, I cant do my route in the evaluated time what chance do they have. Two supervisors talking today can't believe all those packages glad i'm not delivering cant believe their expected to do all that in 8 hours.

today i did my aux route. 6.5 hours. took an hour of another route to help a guy get done, and then had to take an hour of the route the guy walked out on. wonderful day..

I've noticed a disturbing trend in the last three years. Almost 100% of the new hires are looking to go immediately into management. They have no want or desire to learn the job. They just want to supervise right now. You see them in the interviews and they ask how soon can they supervise? It's getting really frightening with the lack of bodies that can actually carry the mail. And I guess no one tells them rca's are excluded from mgmt per ELM. I am hopeful someone at a higher level starts noticing we cant keep hiring just "mgmt" material. We have enough new, motivated managers( related to most district personnel). We need self starters who can actually think and work.

One of my sons friends was told at her rca interview she had the ability to be management very soon. Like seriously, total lies. Zero ability to become management as a non career person. Utter lies and bs to get them to try out the job. Didn’t milkymint also have something to that effect come up in discussion. Can’t exactly remember, but she vanished like that. Hopefully ran as fast as she could for the other direction AWAY from the usps.

Part of the problem is many potential employees no longer want to pay their dues, earn their creds. Many people want the new house, two new cars, the boat, the lake home, overseas vacations, season tickets to what ever the big sporting draw is in your area, or what ever else you want to add to the list before they are 30 years old.

I think we have a decent manager but others think the PM is terrible. As the former "in crowd" they did things their way. Now after mail counts where they did not practice due diligence to protect their routes or they have had desired leave days denied the manager is "terrible". When our PM has applied common sense to certain situations the PM has been rebuffed from higher levels. Management proficiency usually is judged by what is good for "me".

We need to be glad new hires are not told the truth. If you were told you would probably miss family functions, holidays, work most days with double mail after holidays, it will probably be years for you to attain career status and by the way since you were hired after a certain date your pay will always be lower than the carrier you hope will soon retire; would you hire on?

In the past the RCA position was the ticket to a good paying career or Mom could supplement the family income and still be around most of the time. In fly over country that may still be possible but in any larger office with a personnel shortage "good luck".

End of rant for today.

this guy only wanted to work on sunny, light mail days. I dont know how he wasnt fired..see above. reg on his route out for 6 week medical. Sub refused to work for almost THREE weeks before he came back and walked out. Used every excuse he could find. He actually wasnt doing that bad on his last day. by my calculations, he would have been done around 500 or maybe 530 if he didnt get help. but everyone was always out to screw him, at least in his mind.

I used to get incensed watching the senior RCA’s never have to work extra, or anything outside of their j day, yet hold down the top spot for the next regular route, while keeping their other full time job M-F. Screwing the ones below them who worked on call 6 days a week knowing they would not be going regular next.
