Trailer for huge RMPO loads?

Long long ago (until three months after I started this job last year), the old GM sedans and CR-Vs lived in adequacy... then Amazon attacked, and not even the CR-Vs were enough some days.

Anyone use a small enclosed trailer to take mail, packages, and second loads to RMPOs? It's a 20-30 mile round trip for me to go all the way back to my stationed office. The OIC when I was hired on laughed and said it probably wasn't kosher. PM and other carriers joke about it... but what if I actually did it?

I am a broke RCA with my new-to-me junker van broke already too. Wouldn't pull it the trailer down the whole route with me for obvious reasons.

Just wondering if this is a thing anyone does, sane, etc., or if I should just keep bearing my second/third trips until I can fix the van. I have experience towing stuff for the farm and a little cargo carrier would be well within my comfort zone.

I don't know of any prohibition against this. I think the fuel and time combination would ultimately make it economically unfeasible. Could hitch or rooftop carriers provide enough storage? Does returning to the office make you miss dispatch or do you simply not like the extra driving?

I think backing up that trailer when needed would bring a whole new meaning to backing up. Lol I believe hiring spotters to ride along would be a good solution 😄 I say let's do it!

I'm not sure about a trailer, but I've seen a "Hitch-n-haul" used. As it is "part" of the vehicle, and as long as it has lights on it, or the lights aren't obstructed. It would hold 2-4 big ones and allowed that carrier to avoid 2nd trips.
