Trapped in a toxic environment (PTF)

From what I understand from the op, there are vacant (RCA positions for) routes in the office. If so, shouldn’t they have assigned the most senior carrier first (Ptf) before the other RCAs that don’t have a year in yet?
This is is exactly my thought. But like I said, toxic environment. Soooooo….I just found out that another rca was hired as sub of record for a route on my string….I’m guessing they will move my string to another route. However, they have new RCA’s onboarding for each route. Will they then dissolve my position?

PTF can not be assigned to a vacant route, they can cover the relief day of whichever sub would get it as hold down.

The RCAs need to put a call in to the ADR and file if need be.
I think they meant routes without sub of records. Ptf can’t have hold downs. And we don’t have any vacant routes at my station. But this is a nice insight as to how RCA’s are way more protected than ptfs.

Are these new RCAs actually sticking around???? If so, that's bucking the nation-wide trend.... 🤷‍♂️👉🧐

Yeah, I'm just saying.... most new RCAs don't stay long in most locations.... unless your location is different somehow.... 🤷‍♂️👉🧐

RCAs are about as protected as PTF which is not saying much. Most of our contract deals with regs and the rights they have. That being said the schedule is completely up to management beyond primary for RCAs and your string of 2.

My experience was completely the opposite of you even when we had subs as PTF. Other subs would work 2-3 days a week I would work 6-7 days.

Will they then dissolve my position?
No. Once a PTF position is created it can’t be dissolved unless the PTF position becomes vacant (e.g. the PTF converts to regular). In that case, management can decide whether or not to keep the PTF position and post it for bid. See Step 4, 6-19-17, E06R-4E-C 10348025, Black Hawk, SD (P-120)

You should contact your union rep so they can find out what’s going on in your office. While management can change your string, I don’t know if they can reduce your established string from four routes to two by hiring RCAs. I’d definitely contact my union rep to discuss.

This is not correct. The rural PTF position was created in order to cover relief days, that is their purpose. They are not just a “senior RCA.” They work a “string” of relief days on different routes, but they can be utilized to fill in elsewhere, at management’s discretion.

RCAs remain actual “leave replacements.” They fill in when carriers take leave.

In your scenario, any work on a regular route without a primary leave replacement assigned would go to the most senior available RCA, not necessarily a PTF, who is more than likely already working one of the routes on their string. Could the PTF be pulled off their string to work this other route? Yes, they could, but if I’m the regular carrier being forced to work my relief day so the PTF can work this other route, I’m probably grieving it. And if I’m an RCA sitting at home? Yep, I’m definitely grieving, too. I may not prevail in those grievances, but I might.

Make sure all nearby offices know that you have available days during the week. Check liteblue at least once a week for district wide postings. On days when there's no work - do your very best to enjoy your day off. Have fun. If word gets around that you are having too much fun on your days off someone will make it their mission to bring you into work more often 😄

On days you do work if it is stressful being around toxic co-workers - you can cut down on your office time by taking your DPS to the street. The office I started in as an RCA was a hellish place to work. Discrimination, gossip, bullying, sexual harassment, you name it. I'd rather be out in the street longer with DPS, listening to my music, than be in that building around those people. That helped me a lot.

There's an Idea, maybe if taking dps to the street were mandatory, those toxic cliques of mean girl bullies wouldn't have as much of a chance to become septic.

I love my job and I’m good at it. My office is super toxic. Like mean girl toxic. Since becoming ptf, I’m basically held at 2 routes every week (which I understand is the minimum). The RCA’s (males) are always scheduled before me on routes in and not in their matrix. I work out of other offices in my area, but they are becoming fully staffed, so work is getting slimmer. I’m effectively being starved out. And it’s quite stressful. I understand that I can’t transfer as a ptf. No one in my current station is retiring soon. Because of building in our area, a new route will be created, but they will add on to the existing routes first. I’ve also asked for other routes without sub of records to be put on my string to no avail. It’s getting to the point that the toxicity and lack of income is affecting my life and health. I don’t want to quit, but I’m at my wits end. So any advice on what do do? I feel trapped.
It's my knowledge that Ptfs have seniority over rcas so the Ptfs need to be asked first if it's not on anyone's string because Ptfs are supposed to be guaranteed AT Least 14 hours of work per week and rcas are only guaranteed 1 day file a grievance
