Uncanny Metris Issue

One of the strangest vehicle problems I have ever seen occurred with my Metris. As I was about to deliver a parcel, I put the vehicle in park, applied the emergency brake, turned it off, and took the key out of the ignition. And yet, the engine was still running and the radio was still on. It was like a possessed vehicle in one of those horror car movies. It’s alive!

Has anyone experienced this with the Metris? And if so, has it been fixed? Any thoughts?

Only thing I experienced that really PO'd me was the bluetooth turned off when I started the Metris up. Had to turn it off for 15 min and start it again to reset it.
Was rocking out to some sweet tunes then nothing.

With ours, you turn the key to start it and nothing happens. VMF has no clue how to service, let alone diagnose the problems they have.

Curious how your problem was resolved... did you insert the key and repeat the process after which it turned off? It sounds like the WINS module has gremlins in it.

Get a can of computer duster spray. Connect the wand. Insert the wand in the ignition switch WITH THE CAN UPSIDE DOWN.

While protecting your face and hands squirt about ten seconds of the liquid into the ignition switch.

Let it evaporate and dry. Then try the key. Works about 65% of the time.

if i take the key out of mine just right, the radio turns back on and the system thinks the key is still in the ignition
it happens multiple times every day

Having been a Pov driver for years and ignoring the "Requirement" to shut vehicle off and take the key, I never had an ignition problem. Taking the key in and out of these government vehicles eventually ruin the ignition switches.

I actually went thru quite a few ignition switches on my POVs over the years, just doing all the switching on and off that was really necessary... but I also seldom would turn it off for routine door deliveries... I never drove a Gov't vehicle in all my years with the PO... man, it's nice to be out of that mess...

Someone in my office had this issue. Something about the laser in the ignition...it may just need to be cleaned.

Happened 2 years ago. I wrote it up, and next day mechanic said he found nothing wrong. Happened again a couple more times, and then an rca took the vehicle after me and said it wouldn't even start. Mechanic changed the battery and then had it happened to him. He said this thing is possessed.

Anyway it sat there for 2 weeks and then they took it to VMF. Came back 2 days later and that hasn't happened again.

Happened 2 months ago. We changed the battery in the key fob and it worked for a week before happening again. I googled it and sprayed some hand sanitizer alcohol and used an old Covid mask on my pinky and shoved it in the key slot and got a lot of dirt out but hurt my finger in the process. Use something else like a q tip. Has been working fine ever since.

Long story short, nothing I tried worked to turn it off, so after discussing it over the phone with my supervisor, I decided to bring it back to the office and switch it out for a loaner vehicle, not only over safety concerns, but also because my supervisor, who was scheduled to leave early in the afternoon, knew how to shut it off, but it was more like disabling it. The vehicle was towed away to the dealership the very next day and remains there ever since, which was a few weeks ago.

The WINS module sounds plausible.
