Unfair termination.

To start i am an rca with over 10 years of expierence. Left the post office in 2013 to raise a child and came back two years ago in oct 2017. I left the first time because of not having guaranteed days and not wanting to be fired for being unavaliable. Ffwd till 2 years ago i hired back into the po and transferred back to my original office that had new management. New supervisor said she would work with me since she was a new mom and understood not having daycare on call. Supervisor was promoted to post master last year and we received a new supervisor. Since than our office has not run smoothly. New supervisor doesn't no rural contract and has given a ton of employees a terrible time. This past veterans day i worked till 8 pm she changed my schedule sometime after 2pm when i left for route and 8 at night when i got back. I was scheduled for our aux rt starting time 1230. Then they moved me back to a big route. I told her it was too late at night to find a sitter i could work the original aux or be n.a.. Didn't end up working put in a slip saying i was unavailable due to not enough time to find childcare. The following day i received a voicemail stating there was a schedule change and to come in tommorow for a full route. Called back about trying to find daycare and my supervisor screamed at me over the phone
That i shouldn't have this job if i cant work on the spot and i told her about my agreement with postmaster and she said she was unaware . I was screamed at the whole conversation and another employee heard and when i called said employee they asked if that was me she was screaming at. I ended up working the day anyway sending children to daycare. i ended up picking my baby up that night and she came down with hand foot and mouth disease and double ear infections. Confirmed by pediatrician . i took 10 days off work with a note. Since there r no antibiotics for a viral infection and it says the incubation period was 7-10 days. I. Called in on a Friday evening and said i would call hotline. But wanted to give them a heads up. Management called me put me on speaker phone in there office 3 days later and both postmaster and supervisor lit into me about not being able to be back within 48 hours of antibiotics and how ridiculous it is to take 10 days off for. Demanded i bring a drs note in before i return for work. I told them i would try to find someone for the next day(Wednesday) to watch kids so i can bring it in since my child's contagious and we're not leaving the house. turned in dr note ,letter from childcare stating she cannot come back until bumps are gone, and a fact sheet daycare gave me from the cdc on the incubation period and when they can accept my child back to school. They called me 3 xs in 3 mins apart without leaving a message on that wednesday i had not made it in yet with the note. I felt harassed/stalked since they would not leave a massage. I ended up having another employee(my mom) turn my paperwork in. I know i shouldn't have but i felt belittled and harassed on 3 separate occasions over the past week. I did not have the energy in me for another fight with them. I was available to come back to work as of yesterday but not scheduled. im schedule to work this upcoming Saturday. At 1:00pm and they are giving away my primary route to another sub while the aux sub does her full and aux. I imagine im getting fired and im so upset since every call in has a dr note and i have never received a letter of warning. Just the verbal screaming at me about not being a sub if im not available at a moments notice .i contacted hr who gave me about 5 numbers to call each saying they held a diff position and the po. Not my union rep at all. Got ahold of a really nice letter carrier rep who gave. My reps info but thought she was out of district. I tried anyway still nothing called the president of the union He was going to call my union rep again said he. Couldnt do anything for me. Here i sit waiting for Saturday at 1 to come to be terminated. I do not agree with any of this do not want to have to give up my badge until its deemed by the union i did something wrong.. Im embarrassed that they put me on the schedule for everyone to see that i wlll most likely loose my job. Instead of privately calling me they scheduled me to be fired.

My heart tells me to tell you to enjoy your Thanksgiving Day with your precious family and let this go. You can't fix stupid. Yes, it is a job; but your babies are more important and the Postal Service has a problem with being human.

Deal this when and if termination happens. There are laws to protect you from bully Supervisors.

isn't it above a pm's pay grade to fire rca's after 90 days. with the shortage of rca's, i doubt you'll be fired. letting someone go, just means the office will have routes that the super's will have to cover, and i've never seen any of them, do anything, that would cause more work for themselves.

Take care of your family and yourself at home.

They aren't going to terminate you Thanksgiving Week and even if they attempt to, there are procedures in place.

The whole problem is PO management...so many people in over their head.

Swhitney -- Could be that Karma is giving you a hint to seek employment elsewhere.

-- Any other employment opportunities available or unfortunately, is the USPS the only game in town?

-- You could use up a pad of 8191's for the treatment you have received which violate numerous USPS policies against harassment, bullying, ZERO Tolerance, the ELM's Section 665 - Standards of Conduct, and even the NRLCA's MOU #14.

-- Document the abuse and see if any co-workers within earshot would be willing to provide documentation.

-- That is one of the problems with the USPS, you have an understanding supervisor or PM who eventually gets replaced by the spawn of Satan!

-- PMG Brennan's edict of "Keep RCA's at all costs." from 2015 has not been rescinded, so unlikely your PM will fire you. That probably would have to come from District and doubt that anyone at the District level will want to be writing a letter to the PMG regarding the firing of an RCA.

-- Also unlikely manglement will be in the mood to fire a trained RCA as the Christmas Crunch season is at hand, besides they have not followed discipline procedures. And manglement unlikely wants to create a situation where they may actually have to carry mail.

-- If you can't get a hold of your Assistant District Representative, go to the District Representative. If no results with the DR, take it to Susan Knapp, the Director of Steward Operations at NRLCA HQ.

-- Family and your health come way before the USPS.

-- While a bit over the top, why not bring your contagious baby into the office and place the baby on manglement's desk. With any luck, manglement member(s) will be out for a while so the office will probably run smoother.

-- Make the most of the day off to recover.

-- Good luck.

I highly doubt you're getting fired. It's just a bunch of bullies that, as when they were suckling babes, to today. The only way they know how to get what they want, is by yelling, screaming, throwing, punching, spitting, and threatening.

Transfer to an office that wants you?

Grievances? Can management threaten me? Is management scheduling practice realistic and respectful to all employees? Can management abuse phone privileges? Write your statements.

Get these in asap. Don't get called into the office, you must say; will this lead to discipline?, then request a union rep be present. Get your grievance in before they act, then you'll have a retaliation grievance as well.

NRLCA position will most likely be that you are supposed to be available 24/7...unless you get a good rep. Discipline will be progressive. You should expect a letter of warning, no big deal (ive got 2, 14 day suspensions...bigger deal ?)

Good Luck.

File the grievances mentioned above on Friday, at that time ask if this Saturday meeting is or can be a meeting concerning ANY discipline. If yes, tell them you want them to schedule your union rep to be there. Call the absence hotline and ask for 10 days of FMLA leave for your baby's sickness and bring that confirmation # to your meeting.

You're getting great advice here.

Treatment like this is why 13 of our RCAs have transferred to nearby offices, where they are treated like human beings. They didn't file, they just walked.

As long as you're writing up a statement of what happened to you, perhaps you could send a copy of it to the PMG. No reason here eyebrows shouldn't be meeting her hairline.

As today is Thanksgiving, I will add that I'm so thankful that your babies have a loving Mother who puts them first.
Godspeed.

You need to start filing greivances NOW, if not yesterday.... ?

Will they really fire an experienced RCA heading in to the holidays????

As recommended, enjoy Thanksgiving with your family, and deal with this tomorrow.... ?
Yep. Ours did. Or forced them to quit, rather and our pm does this EVERY holiday season and then wonders why we’re so short staffed. ?

Sounds like your office needs a good stew and/or some lessons on how to lay a few stacks of grievances on somebody's desk... ?
We need a steward that’s more interested in working for us and not caring about petting the pm and poom. I’m so freaking sick of her, the pm and super. People call in sick and they throw hissy fits over it like it’s a personal offense to them yet throw out “it’s nothing personal” when they give you a letter of warning or try to fire you. Of course not everyone gets the same treatment so tell me again how it’s not personal? ? And we can tell every time the super is having relationship issues because she turns in to a stark raving...expletive...and takes it out on us. (So the rare times she doesn’t decide to tell us her personal problems, we can still tell she’s having them.)

They’re super professional. Steward told me there are a lot worse problems in other offices, if I only knew. Okay. That doesn’t make it acceptable.
