Upper management in panic mode

Supposedly a memo was sent to all Postmasters nationwide that the sky is falling, every office needs to cut expenses immediately, absolutely no overtime for city carriers, etc etc etc yada yada yada
Well, generally...they only cut pension funding to meet payroll expenses. Sounds like they aren't going to meet the future payroll without congress' help.
Happened when brennan left. They couldn't meet payroll. Dejoy came in and stopped paying vendor contracts to meet labor costs per pay period. It's a scary time for USPS And those that depend upon it.
I had a very close friend high up at USPS headquarters that left for private sector due to USPS financial situation. She lost faith in them after 2024. She saw the financial reports daily. USPS spends approximately 83% of income per year on labor. Much of that is OT to contracts.

The sudden increase in energy costs has flipped the budget extremely negative for them.

Meanwhile they are sending each regular carrier out to look for "missing" scans or to deliver misthrown parcels. We have over 50 carriers in office racking up insane mileage and second trip pay as a result. Instead they could send out one person
You could almost feel sorry 😐 for USPS, were it not for their glaring and blatant waste and fraud going on to line the pockets of the mngt geeks.... 🤔 🤷‍♂️👉(n)🤣

On second trips..... Have one person take all the express and mis throws. We have about 10 people go out a day when one person could wrap up under 2 hours
Its like they go out of the way to waste money
This is the way it was in our office on the AUX route before RRECS was official. It made WAY more sense.

To be honest the occasional extra $5 - $7 is nice, but not worth it big picture. I used to do all of our office expresses in less than an hour, most days (small town), when I was a sub. We also picked up all the blue boxes, too and got the mail back on the early truck. Now it sits all night. Make it make sense!!!

Every cost cutting strategy that top management tries to implement is sabotaged by operations and labor there. Plant employees have been paid overtime long enough that they think they're OWED that overtime. When it's threatened, they slow down, mass sick calls, clog machinery, everything but strike as they are forbidden. The federal procurement process we're forced to utilize makes it almost impossible to effectively purchase equipment without up front payment, with no guarantee it works as promised. The PRC constantly works against the USPS even though they're supposed to help it operate.

Two years ago the Post Office used 180,000,000 gallons of gas. You can see what a $1 increase can do to costs. (note: Competitors have just added an 8% fuel surcharge on their shipping rates)

There's also a belief by Congress that postal carriers are vastly overpaid for the job they do relative to the private sector. They can't cut pay due to contracts, but they can shift standards -- RRECS was a prime example where they now get far more productivity from rural carriers than they did before the system. Look for the next huge move to be against city carriers, especially targeting their overtime. They could start with freezing expansion of regular routes and reducing the number with a freeze of some sort. Then hire CCA's to get routes carried with labor costs roughly half of what a regular makes.

Congress SHOULD act to make the USPS a fully integrated part of the Federal government. But they wont. We are truly between a rock and hard place.

Management here has instituted 1 sub every day report to work at 10 am takes out all missthrows on rural side and goes home. It saved office budget compared to prior weeks roughly 1500$ I was told. They are getting pushback from district currently, but they are given 2 more weeks to prove their point. District is gearing up to push having a large enough vehicle if PoV currently as well. Just fyi it might be coming near you soon.

Well I would LOVE TO AFFORD A BIGGER VEHICLE, but I have after taking 11k cut in 2 and half years and losing more money on EMA, I can't afford anything. I feel like I am broke. I can only drive what I can afford.

OH YEAH Only been without a sub for 27 MONTHS!!!!

Also isn't mail volume down because my pay keeps dropping???? Why would I need a bigger vehicle????? Just saying.

In my roughly 25 year at USPS, I fully delivered every route I was on everyday that I was on it... Since I've been retired, I couldn't tell you the number of days when my mail hasn't been delivered, it's been a LOT.... reliability is certainly not a strong point for the USPS anymore... whenever my wife and I are discussing a parcel or something coming via the USPS, we always say, but it's the post office so, who knows???? Whenever I get an email from the post office telling me when something is going to arrive, it's more likely to be late, sometimes by a LOT, than to be on time. As much as everyone complains about Amazon, at least they meet their delivery projections to customers... maybe Amazon should be contracted to run the PO???? WTH, I better peeps would love 😘 that... 🤔 🤷‍♂️👉🤣

What would be wrong with having the clerks not missthrow, and having expresses arriving on time and being expeditiously processed. If something is missthrown due to a labeling error it isn’t a missthrow, it’s a delay due to shipper labeling error and is excusable. Maybe state on shipping software “Please insure correct address, incorrect address can and most likely will delay delivery”.
