• Everyone, please help make our jobs easier and choose the correct category. Thank you

what are my options. reg day off.

How about if the sub of record gets hit by a train on the way to work and the regular is called in for that unit?

Does that regular just get DACA 3 because there was no need to sign the RDWL?

I sign just. in. case. If there is ever a time that I am called in on my relief day, then I'm going to choose how I want to be paid by gum. :)

In past contracts I agree with the 1 route office regular signing the RDWL. If needed, you were required to work whether on the RDWL or not. Might as well have some say in the pay R-3-5.

With the new contract non RDWL can be bypassed with outside office help, so if DACA 3 is good enough then don't sign.

we will soon be at the point of having 2 rca's, to cover 7k's, an aux, and an occasional day off for an h route. office will be invoking formula in the next two weeks. (waiting for a carrier to return from vacation) this isn't going to be pretty. signing the rdwl, (with a saturday relief day), would be like saying i don't ever want a day off. rca's don't seem to last more than a month before they realize how crappy a job it is. to top that off, one carrier has said this is his last year, and another has 30+ years in.

That's what I'm saying...if I have to be called in (well aware of the new contract and the Order of Consideration), then I want DACA 5. 3 isn't good enough for me.

And @BeatsAll-IEverSeen - I don't chase OT ??? worked enough 6 day weeks as an RCA. However, again, if I have to, I. want. cold. hard. cash. Hubs works 2nd - we are ships who pass in the night...or day. His days off are spent sleeping. Kids grown and out of state. Red Hat Society meets once a month. I ain't missing much. ?

Anyway, @johnwayne - there was a lot of good advice given on this thread. Hope some of it helps you and your situation.

Deer-
You are correct. If a Carrier signs the RDWL, mgmt CANNOT use any subs but the ones in the delivery unit to cover their route. ONLY when all available RDWL Carriers are scheduled can mgmt borrow subs.
Am I understanding this correctly? In our office we have 2 Regulars that signed the RDWL. Does management have the right to use a sub from an RMPO office before making the 2 Regulars on the RDWL work so that another Regular can take annual leave. I am worried that if that sub is forced to do this route they will quit.

This is where things get confusing. Old Contract says All Leave Replacements in the delivery unit then any Leave Replacements in the office prior to using the RDWL. Sometimes office means a delivery unit & other times it is the combination of APOs & RMPOs under 1 Postmaster. I do believe that in this case, it means APO/RMPO combined. So, yes, mgmt can force a sub from an RMPO to work the APO as nothing new in this area is known in the new Contract.
My own mgmt does not borrow between the APO & RMPO unless absolutely necessary because it gets confusing. So, mgmt CAN use between delivery units but ALL subs in the needy unit must be working prior to borrowing.

The unit would have to have a surplus of subs for it to be borrowed from anyway. The "borrowing" language as it applies to preempting the RDWL is referring to out of office RCAs, not out of unit RCAs, because as long as there is a shortage in one unit within the APO/RMPO then the RCAs within each unit are obligated to cover that unit's shortages first -- the new language doesn't establish any new poaching ability as far as I'm concerned with respect to 8.5, the Wilson Letter and the 7/31/13 MOU. Article 30.2.D.4 is controlling only as far as there being a sub not working in the office somewhere on the instant day for which he/she can be scheduled in a lacking unit other than his/her own.

The really interesting question is: say I have an APO with two RMPOs, all short of coverage on a Saturday relief day. There is a sub available in APO#2 that can be borrowed. All things being equal (no 2080/2240, no designated holidays, no one on the RDWL, no leave requests, etc.) which of the units short on coverage gets the relief?
