What Ever Happenned To Milkmint

Milkymint was a poster here that started as an RCA just before Christmas, all motivated, and reportedly told by management she could go right from the RCA position to a career as a Postal Manager.

Been about 3 months.

Wondering your perception of the USPS so far Milkymint.

I hope it's just that you are too busy to post because as you stated you wanted as much work as possible

That “ you’re going to be fast tracked from RCA to mgt ASAP “ thing must be a new hiring ploy, because a friend of my son just started in December and was told EXACTLY that interviewing. I didn’t want to burst her bubble, but the PM literally told her she would be mgt in the “very near future “. Such blatant lies. I hope for her the light bulb goes on sooner than later. I hate to be the negative Nancy here, but these kids don’t know they aren’t even career employees.

Post master in my office told a new hire it takes about a year to go regular..... Lol.

I felt bad being the one to burst her bubble. She quit a well paying job to work for the p.o.

That's probably why many quit early on... they get told a bunch of lies in the hiring process, and then once they start, they see what they were told was untrue, so they move on... that, and just that the RCA job, in general, sucks in so many ways...

The reason I remembered Milkymint was she seemed bright, highly motivated and in need of a job.

Not only that she seemed interested in any advice the community here could give her.

3 Months later gone for good?

Wouldn't it be nice if Someone did exit interviews for all RCA's that quit so we could solve the Mystery why none wants this job anymore?

The USPS starting new RCAs in December, isn't the smartest move to begin with... not that I ever heard anybody accusing the USPS of being smart about anything...

Do you really think its a mystery as to why no one wants an RCA position???, in many cases ppl have to provide a vehicle, no benefits, no set schedule, I could go on !!

I think the original intent was you could work your 9-5 m-f and if you wanted a little extra $, you could pick up a job as an RCA working Sat.

BUT the wizards of smart decided on the DACA system and that all days are equal to Saturday turning the RCA gig into an always on call job never allowing you to really have another job.

I really enjoyed reading MilkyMint's posts... she was so positive and well-spoken, and bright... I think I mentioned to her a time or 3 that she could likely do better than the PO... no offense to us stiffs who are stuck here, but, just sayin'....

I guess it's good that she got out early on, before the PO had a chance to make her cynical and jaded (like us)...

I tried searching for the old "MilkyMint" thread from last year, but couldn't find it....
That one was a classic, and great reading for any potential new RCAs... anybody know what happened to that thread???

One RCA hired in the past told them in interview I don't like driving in snow conditions. Hired anyway. Snow started to fly and they quit.

RCA after my own heart... I'm like the maid that doesn't do windows...

I'm the mailman that... doesn't work Mondays... doesn't work the days after holidays... I get wind there's a big snow storm coming, I'm taking that off... really, any sort of $#!++y day warrants me taking it off... just a rumor of a bad day, and I'm off...

I've said this before about the RCA job, but I'll say it again: the job was a perfect fit for me as a mom with school aged children because I wasn't tied to that 9-5 schedule. I could get my kids off to school and be home when they got out and I almost never had to work holidays when the kids were off. I got to work and avoided childcare expenses almost entirely. So the job can be a good fit for people who have that specific set of life circumstances.

In my office, we just lost a pretty good RCA after a few months because it was not a job she wanted to do; she took it in the hopes that it would be a "foot in the door" to a better job with the federal government, but she was unwilling to hang on for the year to get a regular carrier position (which was an absolute certainty, as four carriers are retiring in my office in 18 months, and she was one of only two RCAs!).

Wow, sad that peeps won't even hang around for a "for certain" Regular Carrier job in one year... in my neck of the woods, we still have 20+ year RCAs...

They, the rcas, might stick around a little longer if the 2-tier pay system was eliminated. Its a kick in the teeth when the carrier in the next case was hired the month before you and makes 6k per year more! Same 40k routes, just second class the rest of your career
