We got a new postmaster about 3 months and essentially all new management as well.
All if the 204b/ managers came from city side. They essentially have no idea how rural side operates.
My jeep broke down last week and I immediately called my supervisor and informed her. She said I could use an llv... and before anyone one says anything about how I shouldn't... it is allowed at management's discretion.
I've been with the post office for 6 years. It has always worked this way for everyone so long as there was an llv available.
When I got to work... my manager informed me that my shop steward had approached her and told her I'm not allowed to use an llv... never mind another pov carrier used an llv for an entire week a couple months ago while their vehicle was in the shop.
204/b didn't want any grievance so she told me no... I spent a week off under alot of pressure trying to get my vehicle going. 6 AL days and an AWOL!!!!
upon informing my postmaster I was filing a grievance he informed me that we won't ever get to use them again and HE BEGAN CALLING MY STEWARD. who... might I add was the source of this entire thing anyway.
I brought my grievance in the following morning and when I walked to pms office... my steward is discussing my attendance for a grievance I haven't even filed yet....
I called my area steward.....and she's great friends with my local... she wouldn't take my complaint. She just assured me that my shop steward was an excellent representative and she'd talk to her about my concerns.

Go to your District Rep. They are the boss, not the Area Steward. Local, Chief, & Area are on the same level & answer only to the DR. An ADR can step in as the boss when needed by the DR but they are also NOT the boss over the others.

Call your DR and file your complaint with them. Your grievance with mgmt would be on Disparate Treatment but your complaint to the DR is that your Steward stepped in when there was no request for Representation & no violation of any Contract article.
Sometimes mgmt will go to the Local & ask about Contract rules but since this was done in “Past Practice” there would be no reason to seek advice.
