When does a transfer become official?

So I've done it, started the transfer to another office that is.

The office I am transferring to has several vacant routes, including 2 aux routes that I cover from time to time. I'm really after one in particular.

The PM there always has had trouble filling those and was pretty happy I gave a transfer request letter last week. OF course, my current PM is going to hold me a couple weeks, but I expected that as we're also short staffed there.

Perhaps I'm the oddity here on this forum, but I am leaving my current office to avoid working all the time. As it stands I work 6 days a week, either on an aux rt or a regular route. One of the career carriers there is leaving for a state job and the office PTF is expected to bid on it. I'm actually the next (and only) "in line" for the PTF slot but I don't want it. If I don't leave I'll find myself carrying a regular route every day in the PTF's place.....

So getting to my questions.....
Now that I've asked for an official transfer, when am I actually accepted on paper to the vacancy I want? Am I assigned to it now, but being held in my current office or does it happen the day I actually start working there?

I'm asking because the route I want is vacant right now, but I see they have a new automated jobs board up and running. What if the aux rt I want appears on the new job board and an off the street person applies for it? Can I be "bumped" out of it because I am currently being held in my own office?

If I happen to see it appear on the jobs board, should I apply for it there as well, just to lock it in?

Or am I worrying for nothing here?

If you do not bid on a PTF position when it is available, you may not convert to Regular Carrier. PTFs automatically convert when a route is up for bid. If there are more Regular Routes available for bid than there are PTFs, then an RCA who has over 1 year of service can convert to Regular if they are the senior bidder.
Also, an RCA only has to have 6 months of service to bid on a PTF position. If any current RCAs have that time in when the PTF position goes to bid, they will win as they will be senior to you.

So getting to my questions.....

Your mgmt can hold you up to 30 days. They & the receiving office will come to an agreed date.

No, you are not assigned to any route in the receiving office until your transfer is completed & you are working in the new office.

Mgmt decides the assigned route on entry.

You cannot apply since you are already an RCA. Individual routes do not have a RCA hiring position. An RCA position hiring is for any route that is available & placement is decided by mgmt depending on if a Regular has a written request submitted or not. If not then mgmt places them where needed.
