working an aux route 5 days a week. route is evaluated at 28 hours.  Also rca a full route on saturdays.  45k evaluated.  Aux route is going to expand to maybe a 36.  Currently have a sub for the aux route when i work the full route.  If the aux route goes to 36..and i work the 8 on the full route...would it be to any advantage/disadvantage to just take the aux route for 6 days a week..if thats even a possibility?  PM says since its two different routes..the ot rules are different? And it wouldnt affect my pay any. just looking for a clarification.

RCA's are paid OT for any time over 40 actual working hours.   With 5 days on aux route, evaluated pay would be 30 hours, and 1 day on 45K would be another 9 evaluated.

So you would be working 39 hours of evaluated time.  If you stayed within the evaluations, you would not get OT.  But if you worked say 32 hours on aux route and 9.25 hours on regular route, you would get 32+9.25, or 41.25 hours.  Paid as 40 hours normal rate and 1.25 hours would be OT.

If you were to work within evaluation and work regular route 2 days instead of 1,  you would have 18 hours on reg and 24 hours on aux route.  That would give you 2 hours of OT.

The problem comes in if you are under evaluation and you work the reg route 2 days and aux the other 4.  Say you worked 24 hours on aux route but only 17 hours on reg.  That is 41 actual hours  and you would be paid 40 hours normal rate and 1 hour at OT rate.   You would actually lose 1/2 an hour of pay    ..........

But if you stayed under 39 actual hours in the above scenario, then you would receive 42 hours at your normal rate.

Now as to advantages and  disadvantages

The advantage is if you work over evaluation most of the time, then you would get addition pay from the OT rate. But if you were to take aux route 6 days and work it in 40 hours and 5 minutes instead of the 36 evaluation, you would get 4 hours extra pay.

Disadvantages ......... if you work over 40 and less than the evaluations, then you might lose some pay. If you take aux route 6 days, and work 39.9 hours, you worked 3.9 hours for free.

johnwayne -- Something else to consider -- you only earn annual and sick leave while working on the AUX route.

--  Of course, that is assuming you have worked the AUX in excess of 90 days in order to be in a leave-earning status.

--  Do you run parcels on Sundays?
