Going within 50 miles of home office

What will happen if you don’t go to a po that they want you to go work out? I’m just really nervous Bc our office is really small and they are trying to send us to a huge office , to a city I know absolutely nothing about! Will I be fired if I don’t go just really worried

The RCA's in our office are talking about doing such a horrific job in the hopes they are not invited back, we also have an elderly RCA who is very slow, I mean after all new to place and carrying what do they expect. Look at as a new adventure, you may actually like it, take your good old time don't let them intimidate you if they push you to hurry mode well then I guess its the shitty job.

The reality is your postmaster doesn’t sign your check. However, throwing the baby out with the bath water might also be lacking wisdom.

Could they discipline you? Yes. Will they fire you? Likely not.

They might not the first time but if it's repeated hard to say they might. The way they are buckling down at this point anything can go. I think they should have grandfather senior RCA's in, they already have set stations that they go and cover. Newbies would never be the wiser about having the choice to go or not.

Gert2's office Rca's have the right idea. When you go to a new office the 1st time you are paid actual hours for that route. Make sure that pm NEVER wants to call you again by working so many hours that day that his budget is ruined. If called back there any way, ask your regular to take a sick day and throw a wrench into your manager's idea to "Pimp" you out to other offices.

Another option, is to call that PO ahead of time and see if they can email you the "line of travel" of the route they are going to assign you to. Then you can pull up google maps, and learn the basic route/ and roads names before hand. I have never been "forced" to go to another PO, I have always been asked if I was willing to go, and I have been able to say no, or I'm not available without any repercussions. (But, my PM is pretty awesome). It is sort of nice to learn some routes from another office, as it provides a little extra income. But I agree, going from a tiny office to a huge one is very scary and I (thankfully) have been able to avoid it so far, and have only helped at other small offices.

I am a regular but I will for my sub, we have just been hearing this circulating that they will be forcing RCA's. Although our new PM says he isn't sending anyone anywhere unless they want to.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but this is happening in my area. Our PM told us he had to submit the RCA schedules to his boss so we could be forced to work for other offices similar to the clerks. He is not happy about it so that helps. We're already 2 subs short. This change has 2 more who might walk depending on how this change actually pans out. Most of us thought rurals could not be forced to go to another office, I can't find any info in the new contract and I don't want to start anything by asking our local union rep. I always heard to do the job and grieve it later. Thanks for the help.

Welcome to rural info!

I've been waiting for this, our NRLCA sold us down the stream on this. Instead of making it difficult, forcing them to get on the ball about staffing they gave them the out to just mandate an RCA from within 50 to travel to an office to support a situation that hiring would have solved.

When I started as an RCA, this wouldn't have been an option for me. This was a second job, one that I would accommodate being available for my Primary route when needed. Every day of the week (without benefits) and now having to travel up to 50 miles was not possible.

If they wish to demand such things, now is the time to acknowledge flexibility and dedication with rewards. To name a few, sick and annual leave as well as other benefits that a full time employee receive, to include employment time counting towards retirement. It's really no longer a part time position.

My concern is if this is pushed, we may have a mass fallout of RCA's leaving us even shorter staffed.

Article 30.2.D.4. Utilization of RCAs
  • RCAs from another office within local commuting distance may be used before regular carriers not on the RDWL

I heard a RCA in my office being told they get paid NO mileage for traveling to other offices.... this was for an AmaScam Sunday run.... is this right.... no mileage $$$ money???

I have a sub assigned to my route.... a while back I got told I needed to let them know my leave plans because they were being asked to assist other offices.... wtf.... I thought subs primary responsibilty was to their home office...

The day my leave gets denied because the sub is at another office.... js... 8191 time...

You are supposed to get paid any extra mileage over your usual drive from your residence to your home office. The main office they send me to is 38 miles from my home, my home office is 10 miles so I get paid an extra 28 miles each way everyday I get sent. If you can get them to do it, which is like pulling teeth.

Well, this RCA was given a form to claim mileage for some driver training they had to go to..... so, they asked, can I claim the mileage for travel to the hub office for Amazon Sunday's.... the reply was a flat NO... didn't sound right to me, but I figured I had no dog in that fight.... ?‍♂️:whistle:

They have to be ordered. If you volunteer (farming yourself out for extra bucks), no reimbursement. It is only the difference from traveling to the home office when scheduled. The exception: report to work, or enroute, and ordered to remote office on an adhoc basis.
I've heard some RCAs tell them they'll do if they get paid to travel there, otherwise find somone else.... or order me to go, then pay me for the miles.... ?‍♂️ ??(y)

The RCA name for your route might be listed on your time sheet. That does not mean you get Pref treatment for leave. If you have a management team that cares they might ask you first of plans for days when they get slip from another on the same day.

If some other REG in RCA short APO/RMPO mix submits leave prior to you. They get any available RCA on current Maxtrix if day is open. It could be yours.

JS... We are in that situation. Carriers are dropping leave slips one year in advance for any holiday after or for next years vacation plans. Another notice by me on my time sheet despite having a Primary coverage unit that name listing on time sheet says VACANT. It states the same on all other REGS sheet in APO.
