Well, here's a shot at a poll to express your thoughts on the sub shortage... what say you????

Oh, btw.... you can vote for more than 1 answer.... like, you could say you're formula office, and have 25% or whatever.... js ... not limited to one response.... ?

1 aux route, 1 h route, 7 k routes. total 8 regular carriers, zero subs. aux route is delivered by a regular that gets done early everyday. pm cases the aux. route.

the whole thing reminds me of the bob segar"s "ship of fools" & it looks like it's about time, to jump ship...

All four of ours had subs, one sub didn't like being loaned to other offices so they quit, one regular took retirement so another sub got promoted, now the other sub besides me is thinking about leaving. Honestly, I am too. This ain't no way to support a family and the lack of real benefits is a slap in the face.

Goes to show.... situations can quickly change, usually for the worse....

Well we have 4 subs out of 5 routes, but how long they last is the real question? I have faith in myself and 1 of the subs, but the other 2 IDK. The one to make us fully staffed is starting academy next week so we will see. I haven't gotten to see her work yet to make my determination.

how long they want to be abused is the true test. we hired a guy probably 5 or 6 months ago, that was retired from the navy, retired from a manufacturing co. and was waiting for his wife to retire, and wanted something to kill time, until then. before working one day, he bought a late model rhd wrangler. he was sure this would be a great way to spend one or two days a week , for the next year and a half. we had two regulars retire, which moved a couple long time rca's up, and another rca quit. once another carrier went out, for a medical emergency, he found himself working 7 days a week.

after a few warnings to management, that went unnoticed, he said when the regular out on med leave came back, he wanted to take a week off. before that week was up, he had sold his jeep, and turned in his badge.

i don't blame him a bit. one of the last things he said, was i've played this game of working toward retirement, twice, and won. there's no reason to keep playing, after the fun is gone.

I applied at a local fedex place while I was home last week. Job offered within an hour, but he said they'll need 6 days come peak season, which is right around the corner. I haven't officially told him no yet, but I figure if I'm going to work 6 days a week, might as well not take a $5/hr+ pay cut and drop to the very bottom of the totem pole, even if the work is so much easier. He told me average day is like 120 stops. (You shitting me dude? LOL, I've been doing twice that on Sundays.)

That and I do feel bad for the regulars in the office. I know I shouldn't feel guilty for things that are not my fault and out of my control, but I've always been loyal. Sometimes to my own detriment. So I guess I'm going to try to survive a bit longer.

With that said, I intend to take some breaks in the next few months whether the leave is approved or not. As far as I'm concerned, they are in no position to tell me I can't. I already told them if they want to fire me, go for it. :)

. I prefer it. But I do mind splitting routes. The moral of the story is we need quality over quantity. This applies to RCAs AND regulars.
I think we're pretty lucky in my office there. We only have one regular who calls in but the other nine of us call in almost never. We have some good subs who answer the phone. The regulars on the list always answer. Our quality issue is with the city side. They call in anyways but with Covid it is out of control. We have several who got their Dr. to say they can't wear any kind of mask or shield so they now get to stay home and get paid. This just started yesterday and the POOM ordered our RCA's to work city. And this was after they completed their rural routes.

We have 13 k routes and 1 aux route. Two of the k routes are hold downs. We have 6 subs. We have a sub who was out 3 months when covid first started, 2 weeks in Aug when moving and has MIA for the last 4 weeks. We have another one who has not been there in 3 weeks. Regulars are working there k days and 3 to 4 subs call in. There are 3 to 4 routes down every day.

2 RCAs for 8 routes - 2 H, 2 J, 4 K routes. Both RCAs under 90 days worked, started mid March. Both below average - one barely makes truck, consistently skips delivering houses for no apparent reason and scans parcels no access if they're too big or too heavy; the other one refused to take out all the mail and parcels for a route in the RMPO, got into a screaming cussing fight with the clerk and brought back a crap ton of mail, now the rest of the carriers have to work around her not wanting to carry the RMPO route.
Management's opinion is that these RCAs are better than none

Canceled annual.
Wasn't as bad as being called in day after Columbus day. That was probably top three in horrid days after 30+ years. I seriously cased nothing but political for over 6 hours that day. And I'm not remotely slow. Usually 2nd or 3rd carrier back daily. Even city routes starting at 7 am didn't begin delivery until 3pm. It was the highest single day casualty of employees I can remember. So many just walked out and said DONE! 3 quit in the last two days. We had 4/5 regulars doing 2 routes today's. Others just carrying swings.
This election has absolutely been the worst I can ever remember for random political extra large flats. Today wasn't awful ( according to this years standards) on political but still had 17 different coverages of flats and 4 tubs from plant. Dps was pretty light with 8.5 trays. And we have been getting 1-2 extra local coverages a day last couple of weeks. We all want to quit. Most if our RCA's, that are left, are hitting 80-100 hours a week. Not sure how long they can last. They aren't looking well ?

For me in our area of the country 4 years ago I believe was much heavier for the political crap! Granted this election cycle hasnt been a walk in the park but so far 2016 I think was much heavier. Only 6 days to go hang in there everyone!
