Food drive question

You all may want to find out where this food is being donated at or too, although it may be for a good cause but in my community they could have used this food for the local community, I didn't pick up nothing last year because everyone found out this food was not going to their community but was being taken back to be taken to a large city that was 30 miles from their community.

It’s not. The director of labor relations has already stated that it’s voluntary only and we aren’t required to participate. Nothing has changed from prior years about the drive.
We are not compensated extra to pickup stuff so carriers should not be doing RRECS scans regarding it.

If it’s not in a stamp out hunger bag or doesn’t have some sort of way of specifying it’s for anything other than the carrier, I was told it’s for me. If it specified what it’s for, it’s not for me and I don’t have to pick it up. I haven’t volunteered in a few years. I usually still get 3-4 bags in mailboxes. I’ve brought them back. But with the new info, am I truly allowed to keep the free groceries?

It has in my area. Any customer asking is to be told to take it to our HUB. We are not to pick up anything. No doubt an RRECS change because they did not want thousands of rurals doing CARRIERPU for the food drive. I support the policy. To think that food can't get where it needs to go, without us, is grandiose mental illness.

I don’t think I’d “WANT” these free groceries! I over heard our clerk telling our city carrier tonight “somebody gave a can of food with an expiration date of 2011 today.”

WOW, why should you ask someone who is in need drive 30 miles to chase down this food that was donated for them, this is what a lot of folks thought and many probably do think that this food is going to local people, this little town has a 60 percent poverty rate so yah they could use it. I just told folks to donate to the church to ensure that it stays local.

You guys realize you only get credit for stuff that’s over two pounds. How does the PO know what’s over two pounds? A barcode.

even if food were left, the donations are supposed to be nonperishable. if any customer leaves perishable food at their mailbox and it rots, that's on the customer. it would be unlikely that a customer would leave food at the mailbox longterm if it is not picked up by someone else anyway - more likely they would take it back in themselves.

You didn't get paid for it 4 yrs ago...now,under rrecs you do...these are considered miscdoor and I consider it a boon !!as far as $$$$ goes

We were instructed to not hit any RRECs scans, as the pickups are voluntary, and to hit our return scan at the donation facility, so our added unload time there is counted.

I delivered the bags and cards to 3/4 of the route last saturday and picked up enough today to cover the whole floor of the LLV and fill one shelf. Good karma I guess.

You stated you didn’t pickup anything last year. So what happened to all those bags….I’m assuming they rotted.
