What should I do?

I was hired last month - went to orientation and driver testing and reported to my post office. I'm on probation and have invested a fair amount of money into the job I have really wanted for a long time. I have received little to no training other then the general area of my route and how to scan a package.

I worked 10-14 hour shifts for 2 weeks with 1 day off (I know many of you are used to this).
On the second week 4th day I come back in for my second run - I'm 10 hours into the shift at this point and I'm literally falling asleep at the wheel because we have been getting off at 8-9pm and reporting back in at 6am for the most part.
I inform a supervisor that I can't go back out because I'm falling asleep at the wheel and it's a safety issue for me. The second run would have been 5-7 more hours. I needed to go home and sleep.
I'm threatened by both him and the postmaster with being removed from my job or I can resign because I'm on probation.
Today I get a letter of Separation from the second line supervisor at my post office.
I contacted the union when this all started and they are doing their part. I'm going to grieve it obviously.

Is there something else I should be doing or can do?

Thank you

Hello.... this writing is clearer than anything on the wall.... why would anybody want to work for an employer that treats their employees this way????? Think about that for a moment, then cut your losses and thank them for letting you escape this toxic workplace before you get even more time and $$$$ money invested in it.... 🤷‍♂️👉🤚😎🤩🥳

Welcome aboard! To the worst toxic employer / union you could ever belong to. Take your cuts / losses, and “run, run, run, just as fast as you can” concider this as a blessing in disguise! The usps cares nothing about anything, other than numbers, and the nrlca cares nothing about anything, other than the dues paying members $$. Nrlca (and nalc) is in bed with the usps management. Neither entities cares one bit about us grunts on the ground delivering for them.

But, should you continue to “try staying”, I believe, feathers within the nrlca have been ruffled. I believe, things will change soon in the nrlca. Once done (if done), it’s gonna take many years to get the usps to follow “contractual agreements” agreed upon by both parties……. But until “our union” grows a back bone, the usps will always get their way (even when non contractually)
Run jack rabbit! Run, run, just as fast as you can. You want nothing to do with this sinking ship!

All the comments are accurate, and TRUE to a large degree....however, if you need the money as so many of us do. Fight for your job. It'll be an uphill slog, but many of us have went through what you are going through, and most of us still are...
A little advice, start taking vitamins, make sure you eat, even just a little bit throughout your workday...and when you get home, get some SLEEP. With all that being said this company, and its mgmt, are SOME OF THE WORST IN THE WORLD PEOPLE TO WORK FOR....this job is not for everybody....if you have other options, I seriously would recommend going somewhere else. I've done this job for 18 years, and I am currently looking for another job because of how BAD its gotten. I wish you well, and know how you feel....I have been through it, and am currently dealing with postal abuse as well. I'm standing strong though, but if something better comes up....I'm leaving.
I will be PRAYING for you.

Well said brother! Well said! 5 more months, I’m looking for my out! I can do 5 months! 5 months, I’m vested! (Been working here since 2012)….. 5 months, I’m vested, if things don’t change, McDonald’s sure sounds good again! (How sad is that)

If you're under your 90 days, you can be separated without reason. Like others have said, document everything you can and contact your union district representative. If you're working fourteen hour shifts back to back, my thoughts are the office would rather have you back. Other than that, your reason for termination is a clear violation of safety.

If you are allowed back, next time management asks you to do something unsafe: immediately file a PS 8191 (NRLCA Grievance) and PS 1767 (Report of Hazard, Unsafe Condition or Practice). Make two copies of both the 1767 and 8191. Main copy of 1767 goes to management. Main copy of 8191 goes to the union. Keep a copy for your own records. Copy of 8191 goes to management. Copy of 1767 should be sent in with 8191 to the union.

14-Hour Limit

May not drive beyond the 14th consecutive hour after coming on duty, following 10 consecutive hours off duty. Off-duty time does not extend the 14-hour period.

60/70-Hour Limit

May not drive after 60/70 hours on duty in 7/8 consecutive days. A driver may restart a 7/8 consecutive day period after taking 34 or more consecutive hours off duty.

They can fire you for anything in your probationary period. I suggest re applying at another office or in another craft. I highly suggest you apply as a clerk

I highly suggest getting as far from this toxic environment as you can. You for one know this. Why suggest a different position in this sinking ship???

The problem that you’re running into is BAD MANAGEMENT.
It’s a federal law that you can NOT be worked beyond 12 hours/day, nor postal policy, not nrlca contract,
FEDERAL LAW. Your managers were breaking this law by forcing you to continually work over 12 hours and you could file a national labor board complaint for their actions. That’s the first part.
Your managers also are still required to ask permission from their district manager to fire anyone in probation, they can NOT do this on their own. What these types of bad managers do is ACT like they are firing you and get you to resign, the ONLY WAY for them to get rid of you is if you resign. Otherwise they must get district manager approval and that is only given for those carriers that have been physically fighting, stealing , or doing drugs.
A good steward would be advising your management team to back off because it’s not your job on the line it’s theirs. If your local steward is not that kind of steward call your district representative

ABSOLUTELY AWESOME COMMENT RIGHT HERE. WELL SAID!!! Rt2mailman is EXACTLY RIGHT....even if you have been fired, you can still file a LABOR BOARD COMPLAINT, you have 6 months to file, and its likely they can require the po to put you back to work, and get you the pay you missed during this time. YES, it may take a while, BUT get another job, and let the Labor board do theirs.....teach those mgmt morons a lesson they'll never forget....😡😡😡🤠 and then if you are offered the po job again....make your choice..

Not every office is toxic. I saw one once. About 28 years ago in Hawaii. It was really pleasant. They bbq'd on the back lot twice a week with whatever someone caught fishing on lunch break.
I wouldn’t mind moving to Hawaii and work for the PO. But I doubt the wage is high enough to live on out there.

to make my answer better, just quit going into that office, they won't fire you... you'll still be on the rolls in 10 years... talk to your mail carrier, if you like them, if not ask your mom's or cousins mail carrier, find a good office and work there,, trust me, they'll take you,, but then again, if you are this willing to work, you can work anywhere you want besides the post office

I'm told that every office around my area needs RCA's - but when I go look at usps.com/careers they are never listed. - Should I just go down in person and talk to the Postmaster?
