LLV GPS installed in all vehicles this week

I had one put in about 2 weeks ago, it’s right underneath the steering column. I even thought to myself that this thing had better have more resilience against horrific conditions like mud, rain and intense heat. Knowing the post office, I’m sure they’re all going to start turning up destroyed and carriers will be blamed, instead of upper management realizing that WE are in these conditions 6-7 days a week and WE should have some of that money that’s wasted on this totalitarian garbage thrown our way. Funny enough, I noticed it not because a mechanic I’d never seen before was wondering aimlessly in the lot, but because the brand new red wire sticking out contrasted so hard against the dusty and faded interior of the LLV. Good thing they weren’t going for subtlety…

- Recently our new PM did a ride along with everyone. Some were told we needed to make the gravel fly when we leave a box and apply the brake harder when we get to the box so our backs leave the seat.

-- Hopefully those carriers got it in writing!!

i only noticed a sticker in passenger side door well a few months ago that read something like "this vehicle equipped with GPS , Do not remove" The sticker could have been there weeks or months b4 i noticed it though.

My LLV caught fire in the rain once.
They installed a rain shield on the fuse box of each LLV in the office......eventually.
Safety first.

Just read the website in detail. This system monitors every single aspect and action of a driver and vehicle, from route deviation to speed, idle, acceleration, braking, and location, among other things. All this data is available real time to a central location, (our District), who has the dashboard and software to isolate any vehicle's performance outside the "norm" they establish (acceleration, for example) or too much idling time or any deviation from line of travel (don't miss a parcel, you'll get an alert) Typically if the system "beeps" while being driven, an alert is sent to local office (PM) to investigate and take corrective action.

And you thought Big Brother was watching before! Every time you step on the gas, brake, or initiate a turn this information is being sent to central command, for comparison against a standard and a normal.

To the post office, "driver coaching" is written discipline.

Put a fix it ticket in, while at it list everything else on it as well. Watch it get fixed but nothing else .

Our offices out West are constantly short from breakdowns. Shuffling among about a dozen offices to try to stay afloat. City often gives someone the day off so they can pivot their route and use their vehicle.

Since VMF now only does repairs that cost under $1200 (per phone conversation with PM and head of VMF) all those needing engine or transmission work are scrapped. Slipping tranny? To the boneyard.

I think I broke mine... it stopped beeping less than halfway through my almost 50mile route and I haven't heard it since. Ours got installed last week.

You must have taken the appropriate corrective action and followed protocol and district directives to get the mother to stop.

I was told it only beeps if someone is watching you. Could be a red herring in order for you to mess up when you think you’re not being watched, but mine beeped every minute for the first 30 minutes of my route the day it was installed, then stopped and I haven’t heard it since. It seemed to beep when I braked harder than average, but again, only that day.

Just installed this week. PM says they aren't able to access any data, it's all for District and VMF so they understand exactly where all vehicles are at all times and can reallocate to office in need on a particular day, etc. Hope they got a real deal on the hardware and system, as we know they're all 30 years old and headed for the boneyard....is this happening elsewhere also?

One thing that I'm sure they will figure out is how to run this new vehicle tracker report against the RRECS report. "RRECCS says you delivered 50 packages to the door, the LLV was only shut off and started 4 times". It's going to make it very easy to find individuals not following procedures.

Yep had that with old office couple years ago. You backed up 6 times too far...

I went to the computer and said show me because all of them are turn around points on route.

I mean one winter I went down someone dropped mail in box and couldn't turn around in normal spot, so I backed all the way down the road guessing about 3/4 of a mile and never heard one word about that one.
