Wait time

What do you do if you are required to come in before most of the mail (85%) is thrown? Also how do you prove it? PM wants us to come in earlier because she doesn't like waiting for us at the end of the day ( which she doesn't, she leaves at 5 and tells the last person in to lock up), but coming in that early means not a lot of mail is thrown yet. She tells us to sort our packages and load our vans while we wait on mail. Even after loading our vans with packages we come back in case what they threw and end up having to keep going to get a very small amount of mail over and over. What are the exact rules for this situation?

Auxiliary assistance or paid for your time, via Form 8127. Here's the Step 4: https://www.nrlca.org/Documents/WebContent/40959458-cea9-496b-bc91-f3dcf2bcf38a-02082021-Step 4, 3-26-13, G06R-4G-C 11295109, Little Rock, AR (W-9).pdf

Grieve it if management won't pay.
How do the rules work because after we case some mail they already threw some more so we go and get more mail but we end up going to get it like 9 to 10 times. Is there a certain amount that needs to be ready before we grab it or a certain amount of trips to the get it before it is officially time to wait for it?

During the MMS, what was the calculation for the office walk distance to grab mail? Are you being compensated to walk to the area 9 or 10 times?

My guess is that your evaluation includes the distance for walking ONCE to the area. So if you are being paid the distance to walk ONCE to the area to pick up mail, you make ONE trip, pick up your mail and get on with your day. If management says, "Wait, hey no, you need to take all the mail" you stand there are wait until all the mail is available for you to take. Clock starts ticking. Once all the mail is available, you make ONE trip to grab it, and then go on with your day.

Ok thank you

I'm only making an educated guess here but I believe you are referring to the hot case. Now, I personally never had an issue with the day before Mother's Day, Father's Day, Easter, etc. with making "extra" trips to get each and every card delivered that I / we could. Having said that, here is some info from the MMS presentation ;

 Number of withdrawals required
o Upon Reporting
o Two additional in morning
o Final withdrawal of Hot Case
o Upon return from route

That is from page 28. If you DO NOT get withdraw allowance , then the final withdrawal is done while loading. I do understand what you are experiencing , though. There were MANY a day when we were pulling our hot case double digit times when there was no legitimate reason(s) for doing so. Take a look at your office distance walking sheet. You will have a throwback / hot case measurement. That distance should include round trip distance form your case and back for the number of trips for which you are actually credited. Take a peek at the MMS Survey Presentation.

These situations often make unwanted changes when grieved. I've seen this grievance cause the manager to roll back start times to 9-10 in the morning so 1-2 clerks could sort everything because they couldn't hire another one. It was a mess in winter with carriers delivering in the dark and in the highest temperatures of the day in the summer

No I'm talking about the distribution case, where we just get our normal mail

How are you getting paid to perform all the additional duties assigned? Readying MTE to go out, verifying all vehicles secured, setting alarms, locking up building (are they issuing keys to rural now)? This would be fun to grieve just because you want information about this crap to go back to district.
