Vacation hold scans

In my office, when we have a vacation hold and they get packages, we scan them as customer hold and then rescan them as delivered when the hold is delivered. In other offices I've noticed they'll just scan packages delivered the moment they receive the package and throw it into the hold tub/tray. To me, this would seem to result in the carrier not getting appropriate credit for delivering the packages to the door, but that's not my question.

My question is this: what if a customer comes to pick up their hold instead? This just occurred to me. Am I receiving credit for delivering those packages if I never actually scan them as delivered? Should I scan them as delivered if the customer is coming to pick up the mail? I always assumed the clerks scanned the packages when they retrieved the hold for the customer, but I'm not actually sure what they do.

Needs AAU scan for credit to be given. RRECS goes off AAU scans by clerks. Why do you think certified letters come in dps now
Incorrect, you get credit for any scan outside geofence of your post office. Even if they do not have another AAU scan after hold/business closed etc.

For OP, always scan customer hold for holds. Re scan at appropriate location when redelivering said parcels. Anything that is picked up by customer result in absolutely no credit for your route fyi.
Before i answer, my response is that marking it as delivered will mean the customer gets to searching around, filing a claim, filing a complaint, and/or will be stressing until their hold is finished about their package that may/may not be uniquely one-of-a-kind purchase/gift that insurance may/may not cover.

To answer however, probably not. If you know it's a pickup, could scan it to U* 4* before driving outside the geofence? Not entirely sure about the scan counting -for- you but maybe. I know for sure the scans prior to departure haven't gotten me in any reports in the past two years😖

Nothing a clerk does will ever give you credit in RRECS unless they are logged into a MDD as a carrier on a rural route. The point of sale RSS has no RRECS functions at all and neither do DSS, PASS or a clerk scanner.

To answer urcanus, pick up at the window of held parcels results in the tracking showing delivered at post office. You'll never get credit for the delivery to Front door, garage, individual, etc.

My point is you need the AAU scan to get credit. Credit is the number of AAU scans for your route.
yes clerks are there to slow us down

AAU scans are NOT necessary to receive Rrecs credit. Check this by looking up the bar code of a parcel without AAU from the clerks It will show delivered by you and where.
As far as hold notice parcels, if you are holding 1,2, or any number, you are holding it each day and an eligible scan can be made showing that parcel is attempted, held, EVERY day it is held. You or the clerks should be scanning "delivered to the individual" when delivering at the office. This will give a door delivery credit.
