In my office, when we have a vacation hold and they get packages, we scan them as customer hold and then rescan them as delivered when the hold is delivered. In other offices I've noticed they'll just scan packages delivered the moment they receive the package and throw it into the hold tub/tray. To me, this would seem to result in the carrier not getting appropriate credit for delivering the packages to the door, but that's not my question.
My question is this: what if a customer comes to pick up their hold instead? This just occurred to me. Am I receiving credit for delivering those packages if I never actually scan them as delivered? Should I scan them as delivered if the customer is coming to pick up the mail? I always assumed the clerks scanned the packages when they retrieved the hold for the customer, but I'm not actually sure what they do.
