RCA/ARC

So I was hired as an ARC and went in to take the drug test. After that got my email about the NAIC background check and my schedule for the upcoming training and orientation ahead. The next day after the drug test which was this Tuesday (took the drug test Monday of this week) I was called by another local PO that I had interviewed with about an RCA position. He offered me the job for his RCA spot. The lady that interviewed me told me I should accept the RCA spot at the other PO if he did indeed offer me the job when I interviewed with her for the ARC spot. Now I know an ARC spot is basically the bottom of the barrel. But from what I’m hearing the RCA spot isn’t much better u just get can accumulate seniority and are guaranteed at least your one day unlike as an ARC.

I accepted the RCA spot and still haven’t been able to get in touch with the other postmaster to let her know I was offered and accepted the RCA spot at another PO. And I still haven’t received any kind of email regarding accepting or declining the RCA spot. He told he I have the job but I have not received an email regarding this.

My question would be did I make the wrong decision accepting the RCA over the ARC? And could I even still decline the RCA spot after I verbally told him I accepted and go back to the ARC spot I previously accepted without issue?

Also since I accepted the RCA spot and have already taken the drug test that same week for the ARC position will I have to go back in an take another drug test for the RCA position? Also I didn’t have to take any kind f physical for the ARC would I be required to take one for the RCA position?

Just trying to see if I made the right choice and what my options are here. Thanks guys!

Def take the rca spot.

Yea I assumed so. Even the PM that hired me for the ARC spot told me that if I was offered the RCA at the other PO to take it over the ARC.

My question was will I have to take another drug test and is there a physical u have to take for the RCA position? I didn’t have to take a physical for the ARC position.

Arc's work only Sundays and holidays, or possibly everyday during the Christmas period, delivering Amazon parcels.Rca's work at least 1 day a week delivering mail and parcels, possibly everyday depending on if they are needed, and Sundays delivering Amazon parcels, and holidays if the office is a hub/spoke office (receives Amazon Sunday parcels, not all offices do). You could take the Rca job and work the same as you would as an Arc also, if you are needed on Sundays. This all depends on the # of RCA's/ Arc's in your office. Most offices are currently low on the # of needed Rca's/Arcs and will take anybody they can get.

No physicals. I'd think the one drug test will do fine, as it seems to be a umbrella USPS thing.

Good. I hate physicals and even further more I hated being in that place where I drug tested. Took me almost 2 hours for just a urine test.....smh

The PO where I was hired as an RCA does have ARCs there working.

My PM told me he wouldn’t throw me to the fire and overwhelm me with too much at first and I hope he sticks to that.

Does the RCA office have LLV's (long life vehicles) for the rural routes or do the rural carriers have to use their own vehicles?

Not sure have only been there to interview. He did ask me if I had a car but said it was not required. I told him no and he told me it was no problem and hired me anyways. If they don’t have LLVs how does that affect my situation? This is a pretty big area and PO.

You're going to want to call your PM and ask them directly if you will EVER need your own vehicle to deliver. Make sure you say the word EVER. I just went through that myself and I got lucky and have an LLV only office but as they say here every office is different. Btw....congratulations on your new job. I myself am brand new and just out of RCA Academy in CA. Good luck!

cards502 -- "My PM told me he wouldn’t throw me to the fire and overwhelm me with too much at first..." and "He did ask me if I had a car but said it was not required. "

-- Please remember those lines for future reference!

-- You may have to base anything else the PM says on those statements.

My fiancé worked for this same PO as an RCA a few years ago. She worked 1 day a week and could volunteer at other post offices if she wanted. When she was called to ask if she wanted to work another route she told them no a few times that she didn’t know the route and wasn’t comfortable. It wasn’t a problem. I hope that is the same way it is there now.
She quit bc she already had a full time job and she got a promotion that was priority.

Still waiting on the email for the RCA spot. Already had received Drug test, backgrounds check, NAIC check, and orientation emails for the ARC position but have not received any emails yet for the RCA spot. He offered me the position over the phone for the RCA position so I’m curious if I will get a accept or decline job offer email or not and if I will have to do the drug test and/or background checks over again. The waiting game I guess....

It took a few weeks between getting hired by PM and getting the email to accept or decline RCA position. PM hired me in early December and I heard back early January.

Yea. When I went in for the interview for the ARC position I got the email for the job offer very quickly. Went in for interview on Tuesday for the email on Friday to accept or decline.

Hoping post above is right about the drug test/physical. I don’t want to go back in there and have to wait to take thst drug test again. Took hours. And I hate physicals. Do they do an eye test for the RCA position?

I had no eye test and no physical. Just a drug test.

There was an ARC in my orientation who was hired on a Thursday and scheduled in our group by the following Tuesday so it sounds like that position has a fast track hiring process. Also, the ARC only has one day at RCA Academy and they do it separate from all RCA's. At least, that's how it went in my area.
