$570 million New scanner contract

As is typical in this age, very little information provided.
Does this mean that they are committing to buying 300,000 scanners with a price of $190 each?
Does it mean that they are giving the company $570 Million and hope to be able to get 300,000 scanners or so at some date unknown?
Specs would have been useful. How long are they supposed to last? Are they readily upgradeable and good for foreseeable future?

TC77 with the works. Bulk contract price ?

Check your math. $1,900 each

A quick quest for that model showed an average cost of $2100 per unit without accessories. Not factoring a bulk purchase buy such as this. Here is the link for specs... TC72 and TC77 Series Specification Sheet | Zebra

Here is image of the Zebra TC 77....

Along with current image of it's holster. I am guessing the flap will vanish.

All -- The 570 million question should be: Will RRECS work on the new scanner?

-- A quick look at the specs:

- 3 microphones -- no more singing to oneself out on the route
- tough construction -- okay to use as a wheel chock?
- motion sensor -- eCompass ( ? ), 3-axis Gyro, 3-Axis accelerometer ( there goes backing, sudden starts and stops, speeding )
- Atmospheric Pressure Sensor ( handing if caught in a tornado )
- GPS ( not specifically mentioned )

-- How much did the USPS recoup in the September count? Enough for new scanners?
