My office finally hired our last open rca position, so my gravy train of covering those extra days are coming to an end. What kind of flexible jobs have you guys held in the past to help make ends meet until you make/made regular?

I worked a couple of days a week for a small retail company as a delivery & maintenance type employee. That came to an end as a result of being able to work as many hours that I wanted at the Post Office by just farming myself out to all the local towns. I was able to work well over 2080 hours for many years doing this. There are needs for relief day help coverage out there if you are willing to look for it. Once you establish yourself it gets easier because they will call you!

-- Congratulations to your manglement on its hiring practices. Maybe they could share them with other not so fortunate post offices.

-- Is the USPS the only "game" in town?

-- As "drakeME" noted the retention rate for RCA's is not exactly something the USPS can brag about, so you still may have some routes to cover -- or possibly help train new RCA's.

-- If you do find a second job, the USPS will say ( demand ) that they are top priority over other jobs. So when you find other work, it's up to you if you want to share that with manglement. Know the post office and manglement's phone numbers so you can decide to pick up -- or not.

-- Any other post offices in the area you could "farm" yourself out to as "Voglio-il mio" suggested? The new contract "allows" other post offices to "grab" unscheduled RCA's to fill-in.

-- Any business that would appear to be in competition with the USPS is consider "off-limits", such as UPS, FedEx, DHL, and Amazon "contract" delivery.

Thanks for the suggestions guys! I have been working out of the next office over some and they like me, but they are pretty full up on RCAs too; not to mention it's a 40 min drive and they start an hour earlier. So of they schedule me in I've got to run 2 hrs earlier than I usually do, if they call me last min because someone didnt show up then I'm 2 hrs behind and they are on me to hurry up :/

You need to remind them that they called you to help and should be grateful that you are there! If they wish to have someone that is trained and familiar with the route all they have to do is hire an RCA of their own!

Rural Kansas, too many people for too few jobs I guess. The warehouse I worked at for close to 15 years closed down, 150 people had to find jobs at the same time. That's how I ended up here. Not much around this area, that's why I was asking, just in case anyone had anything I hadnt considered.

Skierstmoritz -- How is St Moritz handling the Covid-19 crisis??

-- With stores, not only grocery stores, closing earlier and opening later so they can clean and disinfect the store, if looking for some extra work, why not see the manager. Store clerks probably could use a break so they can put on a happy face during the new open hours.

You can buy and sell on facebook marketplace, craigslist, or ebay. Find something you like and have some knowledge about and buy and sell. For me it was mechanics tools. When a mechanic decided he was changing careers I would make an offer on his box and tools and then price everything individually. I did this as a sideline for 25 years.

One of our regulars works a second job at a hotel/casino, working the switchboard.

One of the city carriers works in a local department store, after hours shift, cleaning and stocking shelves.
(Funny he would rather do that than work OT for our Abrasive PM.)

One of our RCAs used to deliver pizzas before the slamazon Sunday nonsense started.

There's Uber and Lyft, and other internet connected types of delivering services for groceries or takeout.
I don't think they are prohibited under current guidelines.

if your in farm country..local farm supply companies..not farm n fleet..the bulk fertilizer retailers..are always looking for people to run tanker trucks to support farm equipment in the fields. if you have any equipment experience at all, you might even be able to work seasonally for a farmer. doesnt pay the best, but its not really that hard of work. mostly driving. then waiting. then driving some more.

It's hard depending on what you can find I used to work 12 hr shifts at night get out at 7 get to the po by 8 then run a k route had to give it up it was too much but jobs where I am from are very limited I am still a RCA

Yeah...though I can't say it's a job I'd want even under ideal circumstances. Getting assigned to survey anti-government types who don't want to be approached as it is, combined with c19 shite...yeah, doesn't sound too fun. ?‍♂️
