It's a govt entity. Same as military. They don't want you taking a second income stream that could be an issue on integrity. That's why it's in the ELMYeah, I think it varies widely by area.... I've never heard anybody around here making any big noise about tips and gifts.... maybe, apparently... they look at it differently in some areas....
I think it's a bit ironic that USPS prints on the back of the paystubs.... "from our customers".... but then they don't want us to accept anything directly from the customers... and, they're okay with paying bonuses to mngt geeks that most customers wouldn't give a nickel to....

LOL.... just so he's not in there at the same time as anybody's wife.... js....I'd hate to even estimate what the doorman at our condo takes in. But, he does keep us abreast of necessary issues going on in the building. He also will go take care of stuff for the unit when we aren't around. Deliveries, signing, turn off the water...in the shower. Spouse was in a hurry that day

People like to show appreciation. I share gifts with all coworkers and customers alike. I personally would be alright with getting none.

About a year or so ago a new local radio personality in our town told about a counter clerk having a tip jar at her window. I wanted to call & ask what office he was referring to but never did. I couldn’t believe the brazenness of a clerk risking her job doing that. I guess OIG never listens to morning drive time radio.

I always just left cards saying thanks and Happy Holidays AFTER customers left me something.... if they left me nothing, they got nothing from me.... I never made a stink about subs keeping stuff they picked up.... some subs kept all the stuff they picked up; some left it all on the case for me.... lots of variability....

I always did the same after the fact but never campaigned for anything. I always considered it pathetic to leave a card in customers’ mailbox before they’re given anything and enticing a reward for just doing a job that you get paid to do. I’m sure you’ve seen it. I often thought it was a bit of a PITA to have to come home and sift thru the stuff and then write out thank you cards at the end of an already long and tiring day.... but I did it because I didn't wanna come off as ingrateful or grinchy.... but the thought often crossed my mind that I'd just as soon they didn't leave me anything.... I had plenty of customers who left nothing, and that was fine by me....

Haha! I feel bad agreeing with you, but it is a chore. I truely don't get that many tips. I get the least in my office. Carrier before me didn't encourage it. I don't encourage it. I am grateful for the gesture and kindness though. On crap days it is nice to be recognized and shown appreciation. Some folks really enjoy gifting and I accept their gesture with grace.
I will use the money for route things...Divide gifts up with coworkers and subs.
My brother went to the po to pick up mail today. He doesn't have the tolerance I have built up for USPS bad service. He sort a...asked some questions on why they felt it was necessary to have an office that serves over 100k people has only one mail pickup window and four clerks twiddling their things waiting for someone to show up in the mailing line. I guess it got loud with the customers backing his comments. They called the police to clear the unruly peasants. A carrier called to let me know about the crazy. They didn't know it was my relative. And only the personnel were acting crazy.
It truly is a bad office. I used to have to deal with them. Employees and mgmt are horrible there. It's like ghetto warfare against the customers.

.Every customer has listened when they ask if they could give cash. I am appreciative of that. The baked goods keeps the clerks happy and the one sub. Have yet to catch them off the clock to give my gift to them.

Mk. Just read the elm. No cash or equivalent...so no gift cards. Now what? Return cash and gift cards with a copy.of the elm? Small town gonna cause a ruckus. Oh well, awkward is my middle name. Thought it just couldnt.exceed $20 on.one occasion or.$50 for.the year....didn't realize it meant a purchased gift.

I hear all these peeps talking about not taking $$$$ cash.... but during this really busy time of year, you get home, you're already beat, now you gotta go thru all of these cards and so forth, and BOOM... you open a card and there's a $20 dollar bill in it.... do you really feel like jumping thru hoops to give it back and probably either pi$$ someone off, or hurt their feelings???? Or do you just write them out a thank you card and wish them Happy Holidays.... I guess it's a personal choice.... do what your heart tells you is right....

If you follow the letter of the ELM, a $5 gift card should not be accepted.... I doubt many really follow this.... so, if a $5 gift card and a $100 dollar bill are both the same.... which one do you give back, and which one is okay to keep????
