Can an official retirement date be changed?

Hypothetically speaking, if a person sets a retirement date through OPM of Jan 31, can they change their mind and set a later date in the year, without causing a total headache for themselves?

Not sure how much a headache it may be but you can cancel your retirement right up until it becomes effective. Not sure how much that has changed with the new online system but think it is still the same situation.

Yes you can change or cancel if needed. Back in 2016 I called HR and changed my date by one month and there was no problem. Only thing that happened was I got two different retirement certificates. (nice blue presentation binder) I don't remember how close to the date it was when I changed but I believe you can change right up to end of business the day before.

Great. I am undecided on the date, but I figure if I put in for the earlier time, I can change it to a later date if I change my mind. I may try to stick it out until the end of '27, but with the way things are now I might not have the temperament to see it through. They're trying to change our pay monthly now, by the looks of things. The scanner harassing me when loading and end of shift are becoming unbearable. At some point we will be standing in the rain, trying to take a picture of the packages....no thank you.
