Creating an rca/ptf position

I'm an rca at an office with 5 routes and an aux. For the past two years I've been getting close to a full work week, covering 4 of the routes as the only sub. (three K routes with different days off and covering for another sub on a hold down.) I was usually able to pick up a fifth and sixth work day as well.

Well two of those ks requested Saturdays off, and the hold down route went regular. I am now senior sub but lost three days a week as we had to hire three new RCAs. With Amazon Sundays being forced upon us and upper mgmt pressure to cover 80% of routes with subs, needless to say I'm not thrilled.

Reading the other post about ptfs piqued my interest. Is there any way I can convince mgmt to create an rca ptf position in my office to stop the insanity of every K route getting Saturday off and therefore its own sub?

wallygator -- There are a few hoops to jump through for creating the PTF position.

--  The office must have at least 2 K routes without subs.

--  The K route regular carriers without subs have to submit the 120-Day notice to get a sub.

--  The hiring of 3 new RCA's pretty much dooms any chance manglement would create a PTF position, sorry.

--  Per the contract, every carrier has the right to have a sub, even H routes.

That right there doomed it. Mgmt has to show that they tried to hire RCAs with no success. PTF is a last resort to cover routes that request a primary since they have multiple primary routes. PTF is a RCA with benefits and the PO doesn't like to create those positions unless it's necessary.

The holidays will soon be here and you'll be getting too many hours with all those Amazons.

I completely agree with pastothirty. It should be a rotating schedule in order to keep the office lean and mean. When I was the one of two subs in my office all the regulars were able to take what vacation they wanted as long as they didn't overlap. I think that made most of them very happy.

And yes, when I make regular I do think it is insane to have Saturdays off, because it would be better for the office for me to take say, Wednesday off. My sub can take out my red Plums and I can deal with cleaning up the route the rest of the week. Not to mention, Saturday on the k route that I do, I can usually get done around 1 o'clock anyway. Its almost like a day off.

Pastothirty- having a sub does NOT guarantee a day off. If regs are being forced in regardless of seniority or RDWL, file a grievance! Mgmt cannot make up their own rules just because they don't like the Union rules.
