After all these years and Mail Counters still trying this sad old story.....pill bottles are parcels ...PERIOD.  My PM (aka mail counter)  comes up to my work area....puts a pill bottle in my case and said are you sure these are parcels?  Yep!!!  it went to a step 4 years ago and it is a parcel.  This PM,  was a rural carrier....she knew before she ask.  I guess she was just trying to see if I would bend....nope.   I let her slide on the check packets....we don't get many (3 so far) and you want to let them hear a yes from you once in a while.  Check packets, at least these were bendable...not rigid enough to be considered rigid, so I let it go.  But,  we have a VA hospital and many Government Clinics in this area and we get many pill bottles,  we deal with them all year long and they are PARCELS.

Its difficult to follow the double talk of the above link regarding pill bottles.  I know if I have trouble interpreting it, the dbag counting certainly will not understand it.

Is the above info anywhere else where its more clear ??

The short answer is , NO. You may get a response saying a carrier fought the battle and now always has pill bottles counted as parcels. You will also find someone  that has the large pill bottles allowed as parcels but not the smaller bottles and then you have the definitely not and never will get any of them.

I agree that link does not clear up anything. What fits without damage is subjective and the 80% rule certainly leans toward no pill bottles in the large white plastic packaging to be allowed as parcels.

The flat or parcel debate always varies from office to office. Why not make it easy? If the customer was charged parcel rate it is a parcel; if charged postage for a flat then it should be a flat. It would eliminate what is probably the largest point of disagreement during mail count.
