So how does one go about asking for a DPS review? I'm not understanding what a review does or accomplishes?
If you win, your evaluation goes up.
If your DPS is too good to be true during count, be prepared!
Management must keep it up to that standard all year!
If they don't, you ask for a DPS review.
There are two types, quality and quantity.
(It has been suggested on this site that the quantity DPS review is the way to go.
I always got them to do both at one time.)
There is a form for DPS review,but it doesn't have a form number!
Ask for "DPS Letter Mail Formal Review-Quantity (DPS Percentage)" form.
There's supposed to be something in the PO-603, section 541.42 about it, but the 603s in my office all predate DPS!
When you turn in the form, do it early in the day, because it starts the clock for the review one day sooner.

My office has no routes that are counting, which is really too bad! Other than the first day of count we have been BOMBED with dps, flats, parcels and accountables! Crap! It figures. Last 2 days 7 trays dps when usually get 4. 150+ parcels: eval 57, 15 accountables, eval 2. Smh

You too? My dps has never been so perfect!
My DPS was a mess during the last count, I would get about 8 trays and they all were not close to being full, so I got the time to combine trays. Person in charge knew I was not messing around on this and I got every last minute of combining them. Of course, at first the person tried to not give me the time.

Speaking of combining trays, my PM told me that I was supposed to have 4 trays of DPS yesterday. When I checked the tags on the end of the trays, 1 said A and the other said C. I wasn’t missing any mail so someone downtown took it upon themselves to help me out I reckon.

My volume of all categories have been down but nobody in my office is counting, My packages are down 50 per day, mostly of the Amazon type!

Not counting any offices under my APO.
Being an old timer under many counts knowing what is what and afraid of RRECS. I have crunched the #'s for week 1. Up an hour and some mins.
I will do the same next week.

Would like to but it's my first count as a regular, I find the calculator a little confusing. As a sub I never paid attention to that stuff, kind of wish I did now. ?
If this is your first count, I hope you read the January 2018 national magazine with mailcount info. Also, if you have dismounts, get double footage credit for any days you have additional mail trips. Do not forget to get second credit on 3m mail. Every separation for markups is a credit. If you must separate letter/flats/parcels into different bins you can have up to 3 markups in one day for forwards/returns. If scannable items must be separated that is an additional credit. Any undeliverable political mail is to be banded and endorsed.
Any parcel requests( both USPS printed request and note in box requesting door pickup) count for 90 seconds each. Any items not credited as parcels receive actual time for delivery if they do not fit into locked mail box.
If you have any smart old-timers in your office, buy them a cup of coffee for their input on what times you are missing out on. We all made mistakes as new regulars, but, we learned from those mistakes and didn't repeat them. Best of luck!

Thanks, I *think* i am for the most part doing ok, I have a few people in my office looking at my sheets and thankfully my supervisor although has his moments, seems to be taking my count seriously and doesnt seem like he is out to screw me this round.
As an update towards how my count is going... today was a beautiful day! Dps and fss were crazy! And the truck for Amazon sunday never arrived so we got slammed with parcels!

For those going through the two-week agony, other wise known as the 2019 Special Count, how is it going?
-- Remember the number 2,400!
-- Why is 2,400 important? IF fewer than 2,400 pieces of DPS are averaged per week during the entire mail count period,....[ then ] the mail processed as DPS WILL be cased and recorded as SECTOR/SEGMENT in Column 2 on PS Form 4241. or if it does not qualify as sector/segment, recorded in Column 1, Letter Size.
-- At the end of the second week, probably should hope there is a number less than 4,800 in the DPS column.
-- Unfortunately, most likely the plants are running everything and anything in the DPS to get the "numbers" up.
-- Which is laughable considering the bold-face print on page 13 of the 2018 MCG: "It is unacceptable for either management or rural carriers to take actions that affect the integrity of the mail count." ( imagine using "management" and "integrity" in the same sentence! )
-- Request and hold on to the End of Run reports for future reference.
-- Everyone get the NRLCA's "suggested" 5-minute Safety Stand-Up talk during the first week of the mail count? ( Page 27 of the 2018 MCG: Weekly safety talks MUST be conducted. The actual time required ( usually 5 minutes per week ) MUST be recorded in Column 17 )
- if not, request the 5-minutes anyways! And "suggest" there better be on during the second week!
- usually to file a grievance, someone must be "harmed". While a bit of a stretch, one could say there must be some safety item manglement could present in a Safety Talk, and by not having a Safety Talk, it could place a rural carrier in harm's way.

Guin, thanks for the up-date. Your post gives me an idea for any future counts we may have.
If we can get enough "contributors" we carriers could "encourage/bribe" the Sunday truck drivers to "have truck problems " and deliver all our Sunday parcels on Monday. This is the kind of stuff managers think up on the other side.
