Hot case counting

So I was under the impression that our hot case mail was being counted everyday, just like we count it during the mail count. Asked the clerk today ,and he laughed and said "no, we never count the rural mail".

Are they supposed to count it toward our coverage, and if so, how bad are we getting screwed?

My average hot case daily is 3- 6 inches , and many days there is bundles of AARP or Costos etc. in the case. Bundles that should be in the coffin case, not the hot.

Thanks my forum friends
:)

you really need to go to the union website and bone up on RRECs.

short version:

your raw (hot case) gets counted only during the MMS every 6 months, then is averaged in.

your bundles (LOT, etc) are counted by machine at plant and added into your evaluation.

you are responsible for entering your flatsWSS, lettersWSS, flatsboxholder and lettersboxholders under the RRECs menu.

WSH - we are not sure if those are being counted or not (ala step 4), so savvy carriers are counting and entering on 4240.

i'm sure someone will chime in with a more elaborate and extensive explanation, but i'm trying to KISS it.

seriously, go to the website and educate yourself. and go to the MMS zooms every 6 months. very informative.

good luck.

Clerks are expected to measure volume for all the hand sort mail daily and record it. That is separate from MMS data that is collected though some of it is the same stuff.

Many poorly run offices do not actually measure raw mail daily and in typical postal fashion, fabricate the entries they make to record daily volume. Your clerk may be telling the truth but you aren't getting "screwed" unless the volume isn't recorded during each 2 week MMS.

I mean totally depends on if it happens during mail count. Think old count where they hid flats at the plant for the count. If those AARP, costco ad, and so on come in normally then this person is getting screwed because the rest of the time if they showed raw rest of the time.

Another reason I have been against RRECS, I can tell my raw is quite a bit more than what it was during the count. The issue is there is no perfect system.
