Making lots of mistakes after bereavement

Yeah, the title says it. Lost my mom a few months ago after a long, turbulent battle with dementia. Her death was at the 13-month mark of me being an RCA. I've been pretty good at it, so I'm told.

Now though... a few pieces of misdelivered mail. Definitely some misdelivered packages... I think I'm reading the address right, and I'm just so convinced, because I'm trying to watch myself and remember what I see in the office better, specifically *because* I'm messing up... and I still do it. Straight up lost a few SPRs. Like... I simply cannot account for them. I feel like the same thing has been happening with letters. Like, handling one, knowing I have it, then not finding it when I get to the address. Sometimes that's in my head (like, something I'm misremembering from yesterday), but sometimes its definitely 100% real.

Today there's a customer in causing a hubub about a credit card they didn't get. Came and talked to me on the route, then went to her RMPO, then our managing office. The envelope came in raw, the clerk remembers it, I *think* I remember casing it.

It's not in the case. It's not in my car. The neighbors, if they are to be trusted (they know each other), don't have it. I'm just trying to play it cool, though I might take apart my dash tonight to see if anything has been slipping in there. If that doesn't help, maybe casing my DPS again like a trainee/oldhead?

I feel like I'm going crazy.

I'll take advice, condolences, reassurances that the postal inspector isn't gonna come for me, whatever. But this has to stop...

UPDATE: I was having a wee lil mental breakdown... today's things were all sleepers 🙃

My condolences on the passing of your mother 🙏 . Do not take your dash apart. Perhaps you need to be MORE organized in the office. Take a little more time when loading your vehicle, this will help prevent you from misplacing things. Get some tips from more seasoned carriers on being more efficient & organized. If you cant find something, just let it go, it will most likely be in your vehicle, you will find it. 🍀

Thank you for your kind words. When I got back to the office, I was able to account for every piece of today's mail. Just had a bad mental health day I guess 😅

I will be praying for you....I been through that...cancer for my Mom...it was rough.
Remember....this is just a job....and do the best you can, and after that, well you did your best. If po mgmt starts being a
bunch of jerks...I'd look a fmla, or use some of your vacation time you are accumulating. I find that finding quiet, peaceful spots on my rt. where I can just be alone, and breathe for 15 minutes/your break go a long way to helping me keep my sanity. Remember that being sick can be a mental/spiritual matter, and using sick days when you cant get it together IS ACCEPTABLE. Whether po mgmt believes it or not. Do what is best for you....and remember it does get better when you start looking out for you, your mind, your health, and your physical wellbeing. The po will come, and go, maybe soon.....but your sanity, you got to live with that forever, so try to make it a good relationship.
Find a good Church where people that go there realize they are just the same as you, looking to become more like Jesus, and less like yourself on a bad day....I'm sorry to say that some churches arent that, but there are good ones....choose wisely, and while helping yourself, you will become able to help others too....which in turn will help you find peace, and a real purpose....I'll keep you in my thoughts, and prayers friend. God is never far from those who are broken, lost, or unable to help themselves....just talk to Him....He will be there if you but ask..

I had a loss in my family, and it definitely took a toll on my ability to concentrate, and I also made some mental errors... we're all human and this sort of thing happens.... my condolences on your loss, try to take care of your mental health... use EAP if needed... 🤔 🤷‍♂️👉🙏(y)

Life is hard at times and mental health is a very big deal-take each day for all its worth and do the best you can. Remember you are never alone. Prayers for you.
