They tried that in our offices some time ago.... we let them know that we'd file and make some decent penalty money....they backed off. You MUST be proactive, don't sit back and let it happen. They let our routes sit before paying regs ot
Fwiw..watch out if you have city carriers in the office...they let me sit home while using sometimes up to 3 city carriers to deliver my route. I filed 3x,got paid 3x & they wonder why they're broke
I always ask around quietly when I come back the next day,who was on my route..know who's a career city carrier v ptf...bc they can use ptf's
I would ask to have them show that mandate in writingThis was just posted recently in our office. We have 3 regulars on the RDWL and now they are rotating us, so that one of us regulars are sitting home on our k day while they split a route every Saturday. We have 4 regular carriers out on OWCP. I thought they can’t split a route every Saturday especially if they have a regular sitting at home that’s on the RDWL?
Can the postmaster mandate this?I would ask to have them show that mandate in writing
Just call your union DR and ask if it's in compliance with the contract. File if it's not. They'll help you with all the particulars of the filing and represent you as well,I would ask to have them show that mandate in writing
All of that time that they are accumulating could be used as an X-day. There's some form where if you have to wait on a truck, and it adds up to 8 hours, you can use that as an X-day.4 regulars on K routes in our office wait for trucks DAILY & have been accruing 3-4 hours of overtime each day just for sitting on their phones waiting for a vehicle. This has been happening daily for 6 months, management does not care to find a solution and we keep losing another truck probably bi-weekly due to wear and tear, as these vehicles have been used and abused on multiple routes daily.
To answer your question. they are hemorrhaging $$ in the thousands in our singular office daily on overtime because they're unable to provide vehicles.
The silly reason I asked was because we had an OIC last week doing our schedule. She is considered a "rural expert". We are trying to find help for our continuing shortage on Saturdays and we have a carrier the next town over who runs an AUX in that town and would like to come to our office and run our AUX after they finish theirs. The "rural expert" said that she didn't know if we could do it because the two routes, one 3 hours and one 5 hours, would likely put him into a daily 8+ hour overtime and they aren't supposed to be approving those.Correct.
We have a sub who is doing exactly that, aux in our office, then off to another office to do the aux route there. Mostly a Sat. thing. Don’t know how many hours in a day that makes. The silly reason I asked was because we had an OIC last week doing our schedule. She is considered a "rural expert". I told the clerk who relayed this info to me that RCAs get OT over 40 but nothing after 8 hours necessarily.
