Parcel definition

I know. Don't listen to the union reps. and management. Just don't . Mail pieces , contrary to what we are constantly being told by BOTH parties, DO NOT morph or otherwise change classification when they arrive at a carrier's case. All this " if you put your mis-throws up with your left hand and your mother's maiden name begins with a "B" and your E.I.N. ends in an even number , then it's not a parcel" rhetoric would be hilarious if it were not true. Seriously, that's what it has come to with all of this "if it fits in the case" and / or "the way you handle it" and / or "if it fits in the box" and all of these other desperate EXCUSES , not REASONS mind you , as to why a mail piece is not a parcel. I used what you posted , albeit a bit older date, AND the clerk template ALONG with some info from O.D.I.S. AND The Revenue Dept. for our U-Lines and the other large weird shaped mail pieces after the union folded like a beach chair when I filed on this issue. While BOTH parties were "telling me" none of those mail pieces were parcels, I was SHOWING them with documentation where these mail pieces were parcels. Yes, it was very frustrating fighting TWO adversaries. I prevailed but I can't really call it a win because there never should have been the argument to begin with as these mail pieces always were parcels.

Had my first conversation today about to many unscannable 😂. I told them I get credit by how I handle it just wait for next week. Each individual uline will be a separate scan, “poking the bear is fun”. 😂😂
Please double check the "IP" or "FT" on those U-Lines. The "FT" is flat and the "IP" is irregular parcel.

Yup I am aware thanks to you, they all have IP on them. My management took pictures to explain why. I expect to be Monday when I am slammed and district comes back about stuff. Not worried, if need be I will fight it.

Lot of talk about what's a parcel and what's not, well here is what a clerk showed me this morning, and by their own definition thick u lines and those large weird shaped standard mail things ARE parcels.View attachment 13715

But according to USPS, there are 2 different definition for parcel. 1 for clerks and 1 for carriers. They don't want to pay us for it. Just want to charge them parcel rate and call it a day.

They want to nickel and dime us carriers when in reality they need to train clerks better on much sure they are paying postal right or they need to charge other shippers proper.

Yeah that “it’s only a parcel if it doesn’t fit in the case” talk has always felt like pure cope from management. In my experience the cleanest way to shut it down is whatever the piece is coded as on the label and what the DMM says, not how a carrier ends up handling it on the street. Those U-Line tubes and the odd-shaped flats have burned me before too because they’re easy to call “flat” until you look closely and it’s stamped IP, then suddenly everyone acts surprised you’re scanning a bunch of “unscannables”.

Also, look for "NP" on these odd shape mail pieces. NP=non-machinable parcel.
