Question on matrix / seniority.

Not sure this is the right thread but hopefully someone can answer my questions. We currently have 1 fullish route(6.80) not on the matrix and 1 aux route(2.5) not on the matrix. the head RCA and I usually do the aux route. The full route regular tends to take off one day in the week. And usually the lowest RCA is given this route to cover. They do not have a secondary or third just a primary.

This week I was put on the aux route for 4 days . Our second to last seniority was then given the full route to do one day as it conflicted with the last seniority RCA primary taking off. In result 2nd to last seniority is getting more hours then everyone else in the office as they already had 2 full route days and a split day and will now be getting another full route day. My question is it right that someone with lower seniority then me should be getting a higher evaluated route while I am scheduled for a aux route that is not on my matrix.

I haven't said anything about the lowest RCA taking on the full route because we all get close the the same amount of hours. This was a big issue last year with this RCA getting more clerking hours. We were told we can't grieve because matrix nor seniority matter in that situation. When the schedule first comes out everything is nearly even. With those with POV usually getting more work but not always. However it always seems when extra hours come up somehow this RCA gets them. Now I do realize that the new RCA could choose these 2 routes as her 2nd and 3rd and we'd all be screwed for extra hours on those routes.

So questions:
Can they ignore the seniority for a route if I am put on an aux route that is not on my matrix?
Can I request that the matrix be redone? We have a regular back, a new rca, 2 routes without subs, and they won't assign the aux route.
Should I just leave it and take what I can get?

Go to the knowledgebase tag on the top of the page and click. From there enter MATRIX GUIDELINES. There you will find info on how a MATRIX is handled.

AUX routes are not posted on the MATRIX. When RCA's cover an AUX route, it goes to the most senior RCA in the Matrix mix. If the most senior RCA is assigned to another route for that day or following days the seniority list of RCA'S shall be followed for AUX coverage.

If you were most senior RCA in the Matrix mix and not covering another route and the AUX was not offered to you, you have a grievance. If you file you should be paid for the day(s) while some lower RCA covered the AUX for those day(s).

The clerking hours are called crossing craft. A big NO NO. You must do what management says. Then file. The clerk in your office needs to file for loss of time. If a regular thing why isn't PM calling in or hiring another clerk or helping with the clerk work themselves?

Thank you, my question was more about the other route though and the seniority for that as it is not on the matrix and does not have a sub. I was scheduled to the aux route and a higher evaluated route with no assigned sub needed someone. Another RCA lower in seniority was given the route with higher eval to cover. However the aux route is not on my matrix nor officially assigned to me.

Look at the Order of Consideration. Primary, Secondary, Tertiary, then by Seniority, then Split in an emergency (not scheduled), RDWL, borrow sub.
Primary route vacancy is the only Matrix that can be grieved if not bid timely. 2nds & 3rds are at mgmt discretion to “fill holes”.

@Quil... Again AUX runs are not listed on the matrix. What option did this AUX runner opt for? A 6 day run or a 5 day run? Either way most senior sub if available gets offer to cover AUX first and if no coverage is assigned to a route without a sub. Also with the AUX being most senior RCA and assistance is needed for other routes in office on any given day the hrs go to them.

Let me clarify.... Aux runs are to be listed on matrix. Their coverage if a 5/1 goes through Matrix rules of most senior under AUX runner from here. If the AUX runner opted for the 6 day option, first offer goes to most senior RCA first.

Chatted with the in house rep today about matrix vacancies. Response was if a vacancy occurs to an RCA leaving the MACHINE or transfers to another office the MATRIX selection is open to offer. Most senior gets options first and then down the line. If most senior RCA under AUX signs to cover the AUX under a 5/1 option. They are married to the AUX. If most senior RCA not assigned to the AUX decides to cover the AUX and another route with more HRS becomes available and you are not the assigned RCA for that run, that RCA who committed to cover the AUX is still assigned the AUX.
