RCA’s and hold down

If an rca takes a hold down on a K route with Saturday as the normal relief day would that automatically be the relief day for them also or could they choose the relief day upon taking the hold down. If Saturday would still be the relief day could they be forced to come in every Saturday or would the regulars on the OT be forced to come in and work instead.

RCA on hold down does not mean they get a day off. It does mean management can if they have enough subs choose what day if any a sub gets off or days to keep them at eval or under 40 hrs weekly. It does mean rca on hold down should only be working that route first and foremost. It needs to be primary on matrix or none of the stipulations for hold down apply.

No 40-hour rule with Primary route work. RCAs have the right to work up to the Evaluation of the Primary regardless of other work done during the week.

Never said it was a rule, first part I specifically said work up to eval. If they have sufficient subs, management will give assistance to keep them under 40 to keep payroll lower.

That could be a contract violation if mgmt were to give assistance to keep an RCA under 40 that is holding down a route.
Mgmt typically changes the route to a “split” paying hourly instead of allowing the “hold-down” to work & be paid the full evaluation. Unless that “hold-down” asks for assistance, they should not be forced to split their primary.

Explain how it could be a contract violation I’m genuinely curious. Providing assistance is management right to miss management as far as I know. If you are eluding to management splitting a route to pay both or more subs hourly I see that point. Otherwise I just don’t see anything else that could be a violation.

Article 30.2.O:
… the employee is entitled to work at least the evaluated hours of the assigned route and then may be replaced to avoid payment of overtime or additional overtime.”

Ah thank you, was thinking this was part of it. That’s a tricky one to grieve or even defend if a leave replacement were to grieve. As long as they stayed under 40 hours. My area union reps would just shoot it down and refuse to even try.

That Article clearly states that the RCA is not required to stay under 40 unless that is the Evaluation.
If th3 Eval 43 hours, they have the right to wor 43 hours ON THE PRIMARY before mgmt can interfere.
The RCA could work Sunday Amazon & none those hours count toward the Primary route hours; they are in addition to.

I understand what it clearly states, the issue here lies with reps actually choosing to proceed beyond just checking if they got paid for work done. In general as long as a leave replacement it being paid for work completed nothing will be done beyond that. It’s a tidbit of information I had not used in prior issues I had years past when I was a leave replacement.
