RCA Designation 79 - 5/1 required to work other routes?

Am I required to work routes other than my aux and primary?
I've searched through looking for information on this, because I've seen it before but cannot find again...

can some one please point me in the right direction?

I know in emergency situations I can be used.

But is it an emergency situation to use me to avoid the regulars from getting OT?

Right now my aux route is so overwhelmed with parcels I have been out until dark most days, unable to assist my

primary regular route.

Now they want me to give my aux route to another RCA (only route they know) at least once a week so that

I can work another route so that carrier doesn't get OT?!

Their sub was out on medical leave (off-duty accident)  Back Monday this week after Dr. 'cleared' them for work, called in Tues., unable to come to work, 'sore'.  PM has been trying to call but RCA won't answer phone.

Not my problem? this person should've been let-go long ago so we could, at least try to, find someone reliable.

--  Yes.  Page 49 of the 2015-2018 contract:

After completion of the assigned auxiliary route or the primary route assignment, a leave replacement assigned to serve the auxiliary route be utilized on any other auxiliary route, or serve as a leave replacement or provide auxiliary assistance on any regular route.

"But is it an emergency situation to use me to avoid the regulars from getting OT?"

--  Article 3 deals with manglement's rights, which ( IMHO ) gives manglement pretty much carte blanche to mis-manage to their heart's delight.

--  While "emergency situations" is somewhat spelled out in Article 3, manglement often comes up with their own definition of "emergency".

"Now they want me to give my aux route to another RCA (only route they know) at least once a week so that I can work another route so that carrier doesn’t get OT?! "

--  Best contact the Assistant District Representative on that one.

--  It is a time-dishonored tradition for manglement to do what ever it takes to keep regulars out of OT during the Christmas No-Overtime period.  In doing so, the actual money savings is minimal, if any, by using someone unfamiliar ( or even familiar ) with the route who will take l-o-n-g-e-r to do the route in addition to probable mis-deliveries.  ( JHMO )

--  Seems to be getting to the point that regulars are more than happy to be sent home early -- still get the same pay and even get a chance to shop while most others are working or just to get away from the added office drama this time of year.

Your primary assignment as a Des 79 is to your aux FIRST.  If forced off aux on any day you should be grieving it with a make whole clause to include to time credited toward your AL, and SL that you don't get when you are forced to run another route.  Politely tell mgt., that you are available to help out AFTER the aux is completed, and that if this is not acceptable, you will be grieving.  Ask for their demand in writing and tell them that it will be attached to the grievance.  This may put a stop to it.  Their lack of cross training others on the regular routes is the punishment they pay now.

Actually as a 79 on a 5/1 their priority assignment is the "1". After that it is the aux "5".

But yes, additional assistance should be after completing those routes. And since the new contract, assistance can be required by manglement. (30.2.G.5.)
