A pkg was misdelivered on a route in our office. They thought it was me but turns out it was another RCA. When they thought it was me and we could not find the package I was told I would be held financially responsible for the package. I do not remember being told that in training. Is it true and if so, do you know where I can see it in writing/training manuals?

You should be protected by the Federal Tort Claims Act if that sort of thing happens. I've never heard of carriers being held financially responsible for misdelivered packages.

-- Shouldn't the nanny scanner be able to pin-point where the wayward parcel was delivered?

-- And just in case, there is also the PO-603's Section 331.22.c.

- Liability: By following the mailer's or addressee's instructions, the Postal Service provides customers with a more convenient way to receive parcels. Carriers ARE NOT LIABLE for loss or theft when the customer's and postal regulations are followed.

I suspect the supervisor knows the policy (mostest do), yet is playing "stump the chump" headgames for power projection and self-amusement (many do).

If it happens again, cut it off fast. "So if I can't find the parcel, do I just give you cash for it or does it come out of my check?"
